I was born and raised in New Orleans, where I acquired a taste for fine food and hearty partying at an early age, and graduated from Loyola University, where I developed an equally passionate regard for Charlie Chaplin and Francois Truffaut while studying under the late, great Tom Bell. After repeated failed attempts to find honest work, I decided to make a living by getting paid to watch movies. In addition to being a film critic for Variety, I'm also an adjunct professor at Houston Community College and at University of Houston's Jack J. Valenti School of Communication where I recently received a Master of Arts degree. I'm also communications director for Cowboys & Indians magazine and host of www.MovingPictureShow.com. I blog at http://movingpictureblog.blogspot.com/ .From 1982 until 1995, I was film critic for The Houston Post. Since the paper's demise, I've reviewed films for the San Francisco Examiner, MSNBC.com, and NBC affiliate KPRC-TV. I've also written for New York Daily News, Los Angeles Times, Newsday, The Boston Globe,The Toronto Star, Austin American-Statesman, The Tennessean, The Houston Chronicle, MovieMaker, Film Comment and New Orleans magazine. My book "Joe Leydon's Guide to Essential Movies You Must See" is available at Amazon.com and fine bookstores everywhere.*******

The trailers and TV spots suggest it's just another beer-and-boobs, party-hearty farce, but "The Hangover" is surprisingly clever as well as R-rated rowdy.
