Summer Ono

About Me

It's a multipart epic. There was an attic, then a basement, and now there's a couple of living rooms. Nothing but love for our former bassists Andy L, Bowen C and Sammy P. We've played at the Holocene, Berbati's, the (late) Bossanova, Towne Lounge and Ash Street Saloon with the likes of Trauma Le Tron, Paint and Copter, Nire, Less Than Hero, Narwhal, Wooden Nickel, Oxcart, Some by Sea and others. Album set free

We sent the album out to be pressed for vinyl. Bye bye album! We're not going to post tunes or anything until everything is ready. That could be about a month or so. We chose the album art, and now we...

Mastering is done. Now all the other stuff begins.

So save for a few tweaks to fades and spaces, the first Summer Ono album is done. It's a good Spring-like feeling we're feeling. We'll get this album up and out once we get the vinyl taken care of (pe...

Mastering begins next week!

So after some searching, we've settled on a mastering studio down in SW Portland. FREQ Mastering. We're excited. The album is almost done (sonically). Then we've gotta figure out all the packaging stu...

Good God! We're done with mixing

And now we are choosing a place to master the album. It would have been two years to record this beast if we'd continued until May, but it looks like we'll make it under the wire. I'm glad about that,...

last song down - album impending

Last night Erik and I finished recording guitar, vocals and bass for The Ballad of John Day. It's the final song. Now it's mainly mixing the entire album and touching up details he...

The wait is almost continuing.

We're still recording, but with all the weddings this summer (Erik's included), we've slowed a bit. The album is really almost done (91.5%), but the devil's in the details and that...

...and back again

Back from Maui...I'm pretty sure the plane pierced the atmosphere, left the solar system, and dropped us on a planet consisting only of island chains, perpetual warmth and seas teeming with happy hump...

drums done and every time rough mix

We finished tracking all the drums. Now for the final takes of guitar, keys, bass and vox. And we fend off the urge to overlayer on everything. I imagine hauling around big, sloshing buckets of sound....

Key and Spear

I just posted an old song of ours called Key and Spear. I got nostalgic in the midst of recording all this new stuff. We recorded this song pretty early on, and it's actually just a spontaneous jam th...

Tuning piano

Erik is going to buy a tuning toolkit so he can tune the piano that came with his apartment. A multitude of tiny adjustments will add up to a few sweet recorded moments. I love the natural room reverb...
