FAST CARS to ROCK STARS

About Me

“FAST CARS to ROCK STARS a 12 year retrospect of producer/ artist David L. Segal”FAST CARS to ROCK STARS will be a multimedia event where viewers are taken back to the beginning of the Orlando music and art scene. Whether it was hanging out at the Kit Kat, or Go Lounge and catching one of the many great bands to roll through the garage out back. Or catching one of the many great shows at the Sapphire, Barbarella or Skinny’s. This is where the music and art started for many Orlando bands and artists. This is before matchbox 20 and the backstreet boys, this is when, (thanks to Figurehead) you could catch bands like Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, The Beastie Boyz, even Fugazi and Sonic Youth right in our own little downtown. This is when Will Walker opened Will’s Pub and gave local Orlando music a true home, producing some of the best shows to grace central fl. within the last 10 years. Also to be presented will be several clips and interviews produced by Segal in his travels from around the world. This will all be presented to the guests in several (8-10) individual widescreen viewing portals set up throughout the facility. Each portal will have several sets of stereo headphones so multiple viewers can enjoy each experience together. Their will also be live music each night 2- 3 bands per evening. With a live multimedia video experience being projected behind the bands as they play. The music is still tbt, but we are shooting to have some of orlando’s best artists resurfacing for these shows. Possibly Sam Rivers, Kow, Shak Nasti, Shen Wu, The Nature Kids? etc. etc.Rock StarsThere will be on display multiple images and videos produced by Segal. From rock and roll and jazz legends like BB King, James Brown, Iggy Pop and Sam Rivers, to local heroes that are not necessarily quite musical rock stars, but still march to the beat of there own drums. People like visual artists Scramble Campbell, Carl Knickerbocker, and Jim Jackson, to writer and former mayoral candidate Tom Levine, to skate park builder Tim Payne. Viewers will get to know these fascinating people and understand what they are all about.Fast CarsGrowing up in the automotive business has always provided an interesting esthetic. The always evolving lines of the automobiles has helped focus the artistic path of Segal. On display will be several of Segal’s automotive and automotive inspired images. The overall look and theme of the event will be that of a mechanics garage, ( a lot of chain, wire fence, neon and car parts) anything to bring out that look of an old garage. The video monitors will be built into the set. The photography will be placed throughout the rooms with a specific area geared towards local Rock Stars. When the bands are not playing there will be a master video playing on the big screen directing the viewers towards the individual portals for more in depth video segments. With this event I intend on telling a story of a time not that long ago in a place that is rapidly changing with the future. This is a living documentary of Orlando’s music and art history from the mid 90’s to the present, as well as a celebration of the human spirit.
