About Me

A child of an ending rock era, I was born in 1978. I’ve always tripped out on the connection I feel to the sounds of that era music. I must have been the only immigrant child living in the south central projects listening to Jive Bunny mixes and rocking out to Metallica and Guns N’ Roses in the late 80’s & early 90’s. Don’t get me wrong, I mean “Straight Outta Compton”, “Eazy Does It”, “The Chronic” and the West Coast Shiznit was never too far away from my tape deck. But it was that classic rock sound that spoke to my soul.I was born in El Salvador. That’s in Central America for those not familiar with knowing that not all Hispanics living in Los Angeles are Mexican. Long story short; civil war, not safe, better future, brought to L.A., rose in L.A. Ah yes, Los Angeles, California. My city, my home and proud of it.I was introduced to classic rock by my Grandmother’s husband that happened to be white. I couldn’t get enough of that Presley guy and that Rockin’ Round The Clock song. Here I am a 10 year old boy exited about listening to “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Rockin’ Robin” for the first time. Oh you can imagine how interesting it was talking to my classmates about “new music”. At 14, when the girlies were on my mind, oldies seem to have taken my attention. No I didn’t join a gang. It was that soulful melody and to the heart lyrics that captivated my creative imagination. Smokey Robinson, Breton Wood and Bloodstone’s “Natural High” really increased my standards on good melody accompanied by good lyric. By 16 I had moved up to the late 60’s early 70’s and had been introduced to The Doors, Beatles, Stones ect… I couldn’t believe that this music wasn’t still being played in mainstream. I was also into the West Coast Rap and loved that East-West rivalry going on. By 19 I was introduced to Spanish rock. Now for those that aren’t familiar with Spanish rock, I recommend Heroes Del Silencio along with Mana and Caifanes. Those are the mainstream Spanish rock bands but believe me there are so many other great Spanish rock bands from Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Columbia man it’s an amazing sound, and one day when I meet some of them I’ll make sure to thank them for introducing me to “rhythm”. Mr. Marley, what can I say? He’s only the one that tickled my tropical craving and allowed me to enjoy some good Dank, if you know what I mean. Of course, I was also listening to mainstream rock like Oasis, and Nirvana but it was that classic sound that got me. I was re-introduced to The Beatles, this time the late 60’s Beatles. I never went back. Lennon/McCartney are genius lyricists as well great composers. This is what got me into playing music. I must have listened to Sgt. Peppers a million times and The White Album was simply amazing. Shortly after Led Zeppelin made an entrance and I began try to imitate Jimmy Page…good luck! The man is a machine! I was stuck on the music from 1960-1979 for 13 years. That is why I call myself a child of an ending rock era.About my Music:At 24 while living in Hawaii, I went to see a small band The Strokes. This was what brought me back to the future. To this day, I don’t believe that there is as good a music as what The Strokes make. I’m still waiting for their 4th album to drop. They’re actually the reason why I am following a music career. Not necessarily to play their gender music, but to have the attitude of a rock musician. I feel I captured that attitude and with help from my communication with classic rock, instilled it within my creativity. The music I write is much mellower and is mostly relationship songs like “Crystal Lady”, “Wasted Years”, “Hope for the best, Expect the Worse” and “Love & Relation”. However, Jim Croce has inspired me to begin writing songs about characters as well as situation songs like one that is in my blog but I don’t have a name for it yet. I haven’t really had the opportunity to work with actual industry musicians though I fronted a Strokes cover band that didn’t really go anywhere, call it my fault. I’m not gonna get into that, but I definitely am trying to make these little open mic nights do something for me. Hey, I mean Bob Dylan started at an open mic. So wish me luck!PEACE LOVE & ALL OF THEE ABOVE music layout powered by HOT FreeLayouts.com / MyHotComments
