About Me

Babacar learnt the Kora, a classical instrument from the Griots Mandingue (an ethnic group from West Africa) from his father Lamine Konte Bunda, ex founding member of the group “Watoo Sita “. He went to the National Conservatory of Dakar in Senegal (E.N.A) to facilitate the dialogue between his traditional instrument and modern instruments. From 2000- 2003 he was a member of the Lyrical Ensemble of the National School of the Arts in Dakar and at the same time was second Kora player in his father’s traditional-modern group “Lamine Konte Bunda”. In Dakar he worked with Ama Diop (Hip Hop producer) on various albums in the spirit of African Hip Hop alongside rappers such as Gaston, Daddy Bibson, Keyti and As Malik as well as the compilation albums of “Bateau Joola” and “Bidew Bou Bess”. Since 2005 he has been living in Germany and has been playing with different groups in diverse music festivals, while continuing to work on his solo career. His musical influences are modern jazz, world music, acoustic, Hip Hop etc.
