Our Story
I think if there is one phrase that summarizes the few years that Air Show Disaster has been around is that things never go as you plan. After several line-up changes right from the start ASD finally found a solid line-up in late 2004 with Jon Long on vocals and guitar, Ian Hartley on guitar and screaming, Jay Ergil on bass and Will Lucca on drums. Shortly after that, the band recorded a 3-song demo and started playing shows regularly around the Bay Area. ASD spent the better part of 2005 playing as many shows as possible and during this time the band had been constantly writing new songs, so we decided it was time to record again. In November we released a S/T EP which we we're getting ready to start promoting by dropping everything and going on tour.It seemed like it was all falling into place and ASD was gearing up to go on a month long tour, but right about this time things started to fall apart again. There was a growing distance between the band and Will (drums). At first this led to dropping off the tour and eventually, after months of back and forth and punching walls, it led to Will leaving the band. At this point it was pretty questionable whether ASD would continue, seeing as losing so much time and starting over with another drummer would be such a huge blow to what everyone had been working so hard on.Fortunately we decided to keep playing and find a new drummer. Even more fortunately, and through pretty random coincidence, we ended up with pur friend and drummer from old bands back in high school, Dave Jensen. So in the fall of 2006 ASD started writing new songs with Dave and quickly it became apparent that both in part to having a new drummer and growing musically in the last year that we think we have evolved since the last version of ASD. Even though it meant boxes full of CDs with songs that wouldn't be played anymore it was decided that we would just write a whole new set. It took a lot more time and effort than originally planned on but by that next summer ASD was back to playing shows and has plans to keep doing what they love as long as possible.
