My name is Bradley Reich, my rap pseudonym being Lakonic. I reside in a small country town called Broadford in Victoria, and try as best I can to research and educate myself in the culture of hip-hop so as to form my own interpretation of the powerful medium of expression. I first became involved as an emcee in my middle to late teens and as many would already know, an artist’s involvement in this culture usually grows to become total immersion as it has with me over the years.
Lyricism is a very powerful form of expression when used appropriately. I see my lyrics as a bird’s eye view of what man has become over the years, but with a certain level of ambiguity, the listener is able to create their own understanding of what my overall message is within my music. Interlacing with many styles of production from dark boom-bap all the way to optimistically vibed beats, I also hope listeners will be able to associate on different levels and not typecast or pigeonhole my style of music at such an early stage.
Individuality, however, is an important aspect for any artisan. Through the entirely independent and self funded releases of my first two demo’s “Except on Weekdays†[2005] and “Seminal Bandwagon†[2007], I was able to hone my skills and gauge my level of improvement through the constructive criticisms of various friends and hip-hop admirers. These critique’s have kept me pushing my skills and eventuated in the release of my third, self titled demo, which has been the result of many years of steady growth, education, research and hard work. By publicizing this project, I hope to be able to gain broader advice on how to further improve and stretch my skills to their full capacity.
This is only the beginning as I’m already involved in numerous other projects including a feature length LP, and a side project with both Meg [ myspace.com/megofthecollection ] and Squared [ myspace.com/fullspectrumakasquaredinf ]
