About Me

Made with the MyTheme myspace codes
The original songs for this project were written in Varanasi, India; Kalamazoo, Michigan; Newport, RI; Providence, RI; and Cranston, RI. Gilby was enrolled at Kalamazoo College from 1967 to 1969. Instead of going to Woodstock in the Summer of 1969, Gilby went to India to study Hindi/Urdu, Sitar, and Religion. In the early seventies he played all over New England and as far west as Dillon, Colorado. This project was put together when most of us were living the twenty-something starving musician life in Newport, RI. It was recorded over Thanksgiving weekend. The drummer didn't show, but the friend of the photographer who was a friend of a friend just happened to be a pretty good drummer. The piano was out of tune and Ed made us tune it before we could begin. Another friend of a friend just happened to bring her tablas. Some of the arrangements were done in the studio. Some of us had too much fun, but we got it done. Then it sat in a can for a long time, while Gilby got divorced and moved to Boulder, Colorado, to hang with Lloyd at the Naropa Institute. When Gilby's father had a stroke, he returned to Cranston, RI, to be his personal assistant and bacame inspired to learn medicine. The project was eventually pressed and released on Fretless Records (a subsidiary of Philo Records) just before Gilby started medical school in 1981.The record was dedicated to the memory of C.S.(Sandy) Gould, a very fine artist and close friend of ours who was murdered by amphetimine users at the end of his overnight taxi driver shift in Newport.Special thanks to Stephanie York (nee Riley) who put up with Gilby during this restless time in his life.
