i am Katherine Anne Felicity Rose Costello. i make music ............................................................ .........................................AN EXPLANATION OF "THE PROJECT":There are 4 songs up from a recent recording session I had with a local producer: JUST BEFORE DAWN, ITS ONLY LOVE, ME OH MY AND SMALL BEGINNINGS.As we were in the studio, the producer and I thought it might be cool to allow people to hear the progress of the songs as they are recorded, from the raw acoustic tracks, to the final product. The beauty in this, is that the purest most intimate form of the original acoustic recording will remain available to enjoy. Inevitably some dynamics and realism will be lost while taking songs to a fully polished / produced stage. Not that it's intended, but modern recording processes and production styles call for a certain tweaking of the dynamic range, to maintain balance between instrumentation.So these first released songs are totally pure in their recording, all that was added was a slight room reverb to provide a added sense of space, due to the issue that the tracking room was very quiet, offering no natural room presence. My vocal was recorded with a single microphone, with the acoustic guitar recorded with two microphones, one close to the guitar, one far out into the room to provide depth. No compression or limiting was used on the recording at all. When you turn it up on a great stereo and close your eyes, you'll feel like your right in the room with me, try it out, this type of unprocessed recording is nearly impossible to find today and I think you'll really enjoy the experience.It is an experiment and a work in progress.
