Mother and Child is a non-profit charitable organisation delivering community level poverty alleviation support through community self-sufficiency, entrepreneurial development, farming and fishery.DIALOGUEThere is a lot of talk within international circles, of finally getting rid of World poverty with principle focus on the continent of Africa. There are a very large number of charitable organisations and Government Trusts currently working in Africa, all with that same goal. However, despite the vast number of years these organisations have been settled as well as operational in these regions, little or no progress has been made towards the ultimate goal. Why? The answer is quite simple ??? resources made available for this global fight against poverty are not reaching the grassroots where it is meant to reach. It is only via the grassroots that this problem will ever be alleviated.In this day and age, over 25 million Igbo people across the provinces of Nigeria and beyond are still trapped in very poor and miserable economic, social and socio-economic circumstances.Economic circumstances by way of the level of their standard of living in this 21st century. Many homes in Nigeria are still incapable of providing basic food to sustain their families. The economic conditions of such families inevitably lead to the breeding of societal outcasts such as prostitutes and thieves. Here, Mother and Child WILL make a difference.Social circumstances sometimes as a result of economic decline but often as a result of the Igbo social fabric and way of life itself. Women are relegated to second class citizens and orphaned children are left to their own demise. Mother and Child believe that the women and children of South-eastern Nigeria are and can only be the future of Nigeria as a whole, and should therefore not be left by the wayside.Negative Socio-economic circumstances which tend to bury a society in its very poverty are in itself the very by-product of a corrupt and unjust way of life. Here at Mother and Child, we aspire to right those wrongs and help assimilate ???exiled??? indigenous back into society.Here at Mother and Child, our primary goal is to take the necessary steps NOW and begin to put in place grassroots solutions for the regeneration of South-eastern Nigeria and Nigeria as a whole, starting with the communities of Oru Autonomous community.MANEFESTOOur intention is to create self-sufficient communities. Communities capable of regeneration and self-preservation. Our priority target groups are the women and children of these communities. Our immediate effort is towards creating an environment for a brighter future for women and children of South-eastern Nigeria.WHAT WE DOHOUSING.. we shelter the very poor women and children of these communities with particular focus on those women cast out of their communities for the mere fact that they are widows together with the orphaned children who are just left to their own demise. Our housing programme will not serve to remove people from their very communities but will serve as a place of forum and sanctity. Mother and Child believe that in this day and age, the foundation for the fight against poverty must see to it that every woman and child has a home. We believe the fundamental foundation of every society is the home and we will therefore work towards eradicating the homeless widows, the abused women, the abused children of circumstance (children slaves and disabled children) and the orphan children.FARMING lands will be made available for long and short term farming leases. The products of the farming project are ploughed back into the community to be made readily available for the immediate people under our care as well as marketable goods available to the community in general. Mother and Child believe that by eliminating government 'red tape' farming, aid can indeed reach the grassroots where food availability is needed most. Our goal is to create self-sufficient communities who can both sustain themselves and earn incomes to help formally educate their selves.FISHING Fisheries will also be made available for long term and or seasonal fishing leasing. Again, the products are ploughed back into the community to be made readily available to the women and children under our direct care as well as marketable goods available to the community in general.
