Samurai With No Sword

About Me

ABBREVIATION: SWNS
Samurai With No Sword are a Melbourne based 4 piece hard rock band. They take their name from the Samurai of Feudal Japan who used Jujitsu as a method for defeating an opponent without using weapons. The techniques were developed around the principle of using an attacker's energy against himself and folklore has it Jujutsu was borne of a Samurai so skilled he carried no sword – the Samurai With No Sword.
SWNS were inspired to come out of the garage and into hard rock after they saw Machine Head live in Melbourne. The band, at that stage a 3 piece weekend warrior garage project, agreed they needed a strong vocalist to tackle their driven lyrics and having played in a number of metal bands in New Zealand drummer Kori recruited former bandmate and countryman Rob to fill vocal and guitar duties. This allowed guitarist Sam to focus more on perfecting the ultimate guitar pose and bassist Nigel to fulfill his ambition of replicating the wonders of ‘Crowded House’ as a hard rock/metal band.
Together SWNS produce a sound that exhibits rock sensibility and metal roots. It is tight, hard and fast - everything you could want from a hard rock act.
They have just started sharing their sound with the public and already have garnered interest from local promoters as well as international radio stations. Be sure to check them out.
