Sock the Rapper hails from Largo, MD and represents the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) area to the fullest. The 20 year old Sociology major at Temple University draws inspiration for his music from observing the trials and tribulations of the people around him in their everyday struggle. Rather than cover up stereotypical subjects such as drugs and sex, Sock attempts to dig deeper and unveil the emotion behind these topics through his music. As Sock would say, “I make my music to appeal more to your humanity than your situation.†Sock’s music both motivates and inspires, while maintaining a realistic perspective of the society we live in. His powerful lyrics and keen wordplay, accompanied by his Maryland drawl, work together seamlessly to both entertain and inform hip-hop lovers the world over. In his short career, Sock has released an EP titled The Write of Way with Philadelphia streetwear store Pedestrian Boutique, opened for Interscope Records signee and DMV native Wale at the Temple University Homecoming Fashion Show, and he has opened for tried and true hip-hop legend Nas at the Temple University Homecoming Concert. Currently, Sock is working on his second EP The Struggle, which is scheduled to be released in January 2009, and performing around the Philadelphia area.
