About Me

NEW STUFF as of 4-22-2008
I'm John Guari, and I'm originally from Edina, MN. I've lived in Denton, TX for four years and am doing the Master's thing at UNT in Jazz Composition. I play trumpet, piano, un poquito electric bass and write music. I hope to try and balance this thang with music I've written and music I've played on (and both). I like everything, even bad music sometimes (most of the time).
My current curricular musical activities include writing music for groups of various sizes, including 19-piece big band.
My current extracurricular musical activities include playing music of and inspired by electric Miles (Cellar Door stuff) with Team Deathstryke. I've also been working on original rock music and hope to record this summer and perform on a semi regular basis. The band for that will be myself, Brian Stark, Shea Henley and Gilberto Contreras. The chicken still saved our lives.
"Rifts" - The latest version played by the One O'Clock Lab Band at Lab Band Madness 2008. Recorded from the webcast (hence the weird mix)
"The Floor," "Honky Tonk" and "Turmoil" - clips of my solos from the Team Deathstryke Panhandle Sessions Spring 2008. "Turmoil" is my own composition. "The Floor" is by Graham Richards and "Honky Tonk" is by Miles Davis.
"Good Things" - One of my better songs from the now defunct band, Chestnut House
"jive x" - My first computer-ish music. I sampled the beginning break from "Jive Samba" off the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra album "Central Park North." And messed with it in Reason.
