Cool Image CommentsFrom a poor family of truckdrivers and construction workers I started playing the clarinet in school at about 9 years old. We had to rent the clarinet monthly and later I switched to saxophone. My father bought a 20$ guitar from a friend and that was all it took to get me hooked. After being a classical musician all through school and winning a scholarship for music, I was dumb enough to turn it down. I couldn't see myself as a school band director. I only thought about being on stage playing the guitar and singing. Studying music theory gave me the ability to learn many instruments and became very proficient at each one and then one day at 16 I had a construction accident that severed all of the fingers of my left hand. After several surgeries, I finally was able to have 1 finger usable. It was then that I started teaching myself piano chords and scales. I could play chords with my right hand while doing a 1 finger bass line with my left. After more surgery, I was able to gain another working finger which led me back to bass guitar, and eventually using bar chords got back to playing lead. By the time all surgery was complete, I ended up still missing my left ring finger. I never let it stop me or even slow me down. Being raised by a handicapped mother, I knew people can overcome handicaps and propel themselves to be better than others if they try. I today, am one of the best guitarists in the world and will spend the rest of my life giving my best to entertain and make people smile. Though still unsigned and never been discovered, I will always know where my heart is and continue believing that my opportunity is still yet to come. With hundreds of songs I've written still in my head, I record in a low budget home studio, dreaming of the day I could hear them on a good professional production. If that day never comes, I will work hard to allow people to still hear the songs that are in my head even if done in low quality sound. The arrangements and recorded tracks still rock as good as anyone else in the world. I may die pennyless, but I choose to leave behind my music for the world to enjoy.
