THRENODY started of in 1991 as a project from some close friends to make some DOOM-music .After hearing the Demos of CATHEDRAL and PARADISE LOST.And seeing them play live even slower then on the tapes.We decided to make some very slow Doom ourselves.Just because we all loved it very much.So the whole thing started as a passion.Arno was the singer of Pieter&Pik(Hardcore-Grind) and Anti-Dust(Punk/Grind/Metalcore).Maggie played the bass with P&P and Hans was playing the guitar with Anti-Dust.We only had to find someone on drums,who wanted to play that slow.It was difficult to find someone.So Joost came up and offered to play the drum.He never played it before.And was actually a guitarplayer,and he played the cello very well.First he joined as a celloplayer,but took place behind the drums and it went well from the start.Threnody was born.Then we had to leave the old practiceroom and searched for something new.It took a while.We got an offer to practice in an old cellar.We took the offer.So we practiced a few times and some songs came up.Threnody performed only a few times live.And after about a year they split up.We never recorded anything professional.Only on tape during rehearsels and during our last gig at a local youthcenter on the 17th of January 1992.The songs you can hear are recorded there.Then in January-February 1992 we had the chance to play as opening band for ASPHYX,BOLT THROWER and BENEDICTION on their European Tour.Because of the tragicall accident that happened to My Dying Bride,they cancelled the shows.So as we were on stage allready,5 minutes before opening the gig,Barney(singer of BOLT THROWER) called it off in the last minute.He decided that we couldn`t play instead of MY DYING BRIDE,who were good friends of his.That was a big dissapointment for us.And we called it a day after this.THRENODY was no longer.We all went our own ways then.Oh about the tape.I thought I lost it,but found it back after 15 years.All the songs are very slow and very long.So I had to cut them to the right format to upload on myspace.That means they are not in their full lenght.And you have to hear it as it was and in the right order.So I might put the link on the profile later,for uploading the whole concert at once.It is 79 minutes in totall,live DOOM music.The quality is not great,but it is played with passion and love for the music we liked and inspired us.(And still does.)And I made this profile as a tribute also to remember the beginning of the DOOM and the Pioneers.We all know who they are.Respect to them and for the great music they gave us!
