Homegrown Austrian fashion design has taken the centre stage of public interest in the last few years. Not just in Austria, but internationally, its high quality and diverse artistic approaches are appreciated and followed with great attention.
This positive development is now supported by the recently founded initiative AustrianFashion.Net, an open communications platform of Austrian fashion creatives.
At its beginning, there were six Austrian fashion designers who got together in 2004 to present their collections together in Paris, share the organisational work and make use of the synergies that arise from such an exchange. With time, the communicatve element of this process and its influence on the further development of each one of them, suggested the idea to invite other designers to join the network.
In December 2006, the first meetings of an ever-growing circle of designers showed what a huge potential this idea holds and how much demand there is for mutual exchange.
It is already apparent from its history so far, that AustrianFashion.Net sees itself as a platform for designers by designers: Open for all those who are going to introduce their various interests into discussions, collect ideas and realise projects in the future. It is less about communicating the common features of Austrian fashion design than to portray the wide-ranging spectrum of Austrian designers and labels. Among the planned activities, there will be presentations at home and abroad, an exchange of business information, the launch of a wide theoretical discourse on fashion, cooperations on publications as well as joint PR work.
