About Me

When you listen to the lyrics & music of Peter Oliva and his band, The Peter Oliva Band, you begin to realize that this is not just another wannabe who hangs out the cliched shingle of “Singer/Songwriter”, but rather an artist who follows in the continuing lineage of original and individual American poets. Being born out of the cultures and circumstances that existed and was the late twentieth century, he transcends the topical confines of an era with a more personal insight into the hopes, joys, sorrows, of these saints and sinners we call the human race. In this distinct blend of, Folk/Rock/Country/and “Old School” R&B, having been aptly coined, “American Primitive-Urban Folk”. Peter stands on this eclectic mixture which continues to evolve, on his own as a unique Americana artist of distinction and originality. . Starting as a player and session man in New York City in his teens while later, and most notably in the L.A. Country Rock & West Coast music scene. Peter toured and recorded with members in and around the innovative and pioneering group the Byrds and their spin-off bands. After years working and touring with his own bands as well as other artists, Peter has accumulated quite a catalog of self-penned songs, and has recently emerged with the release of an independent CD, "Postcard from the Promised Land" which contains 12 fresh tracks from an American road veteran. Many are calling this work, "A magnificent compilation of poetry and storytelling!” Hard knocks, along with the good times that manage to squeeze in between the cracks pour from the soul of this seasoned artist and band mates to the stage with performances that range from the intimate to rocking the house, Peter's CD is one you'll want to add to your CD or ipod rotation, and an artist and performer that you'll definitely want to catch when he visits your town..IF YOU LIKED THE TUNES POSTED ABOVE YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT MY CD "POSTCARD FROM THE PROMISED LAND". IT CAN BE ORDERED THROUGH "CD BABY" DOWN BELOW WHICH ALSO HAS AN "ITUNES" LINK WHERE MY SONGS CAN BE ACCESSED ALSO. All songs written by Peter Oliva /Copyright 2005

Sounds Like: Mark Knophler, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Tom Petty, Dylan, Ray Davies, Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, Nick Lowe, Townes Van Zandt. Now you take these folks and shake 'em up and pour 'em out and what we get is a big eclectic noise that makes pleasing sounds to the ear that come from deeper root sources that WE listened to when we were kids and eventually we all found our niche and defined our sounds, so it comes out sounding like it's supposed to with each of these artists, myself included. An example: Folk/Folk Rock/Rock/And smatterings of Old school R & B!!! And a 21st Century poet/musician! You, the reader, may sum up my earthly noise to be, "AMERICAN PRIMITIVE-URBAN FOLK" ! Love it, or hate it it's me! Peace Y'AlldHRwOi8vczMwMy5waG90b2J1Y2tldC5jb20vYWxidW1zL25uMTMxL3J 0NjYvP2FjdGlvbj12aWV3JmN1cnJlbnQ9UGhvdG8xNTYuanBn" target="_blank"
