Performance Poetry by Latoya

I grew up with a deep love for poetry as well as theatre. I started writing poetry at about age 8. Then I later went to Rosa Parks Performing Arts High School for Drama and after that William Paterson University for Communications with a concentration in Theatre. Needless to say I've always loved to write and perform. I started performing my own work around age 16 and I loved it ever since. When I was about 19 I got heavier into the spoken word and slam scene. I've performed/featured/slammed at places in NY such as the Sugar Shack, Moca's, Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, Shrine, Triad Theatre (Urban erotica), Bowery Club, ect. Some of my New Jersey venues include, Full Spectrum (which I also used to host), On the Job Sports Cafe (another venue I also used to host), Serengetti Plains, Rob Hylton's Slammetry, Taste Lounge, Jordan's Lounge (and other work with Cypher Movement), Mango's Reggae Cafe, Just Rae's Cafe, Little Gospel theatre, Ethnicity Art Gallery, Dancing Goat, Broad Streets Poets, etc. I've also done shows at numerous churches, outdoor events, and charity shows. Some of the colleges I've performed at as well as done show coordination for include William Paterson, Seton Hall, Bloomfield College, Kean College, etc. I released a book entitled "Deep Inside Me" in 2005 which is a collection of my poetry. My CD "Just the Beginning" was realeased in 2007 and is my newest work.
