About Me

D. Willy had a humble start in 1989 in Lancaster, Ohio. In 1991 he got word that Lollapalooza Barber Shop located on High St. in Columbus was looking for a tattoo artist to work on premesis. D landed the gig and made tattoo history in Columbus. At the time there were basically 3 tattoo shops in Columbus: Jan's, Marty's and Tim's; all located on Broad. Stoney's and Fog Zone had been closed for a long time, so until D. Willy entered the scene there were no tattoo shops on High St. D.Willy's appearance on High St. opened the door to "New School" style tattooing in Columbus. While inking in Lollapalooza, D. took under his wing a local punk artist who called himself Atomizer. The reputation and popularity of the shop grew so big so fast that D. and Atomizer were forced to find a storefront of their own. Near the corner of 5th and High, 8-Ball Tattoo was born. 8-Ball was THE place to go for the young punk, goth and alterna scene. Local art galleries and clubs always had the 8-Ball boys doing something: demo's, shows and the like.In 1993 D. and Atom parted ways and D. changed the name of the studio to Chrome Apocalypse. A month later he was offered a chance to work in London, England. So, he closed the doors to the shop at 5th and High and waved goodbye to Columbus. After a few months in London D. longed to come home, missing his family and friends. Upon returning to Ohio, he lined up a guest spot in Athens. D became a permanent artist at that shop and eventually became the owner. Again, D. Willy gave birth to another successful tattoo studio: Art Apocalypse. Staying true to form, D's wandering spirit got the best of him. So, in 1998 he sold Art Apocalypse to a friend and moved to Houston, TX to work at Bad Boyz Tattoo. Two years in the Southern heat was too much for D. to bear so he decided to move back North. In 2000 D. opened Sweet Baby Octane in Pittsburgh. D's brother Rev. Dice came to work with him at the studio and ended up buying it when D. decided that it was finally time to return to Columbus, OH, the town he truly loved. Rev. Dice changed the name of the studio to Monster Tattoo and it's still as successful as ever.Is D. Willy ever again going to move and start a brand new studio from the ground up? " No way!" he says. "I've tattooed in England, Sweden and about 20 different states throughout my carreer. I've never felt more comfortable anywhere than I do in Columbus. I'm home and I'm staying.".D. Willys artistic talents arent limited to tattooing. He is also a published poet for US Poetry Association 2003; has photographs on permanent display at The Bowery Gallery in New York City; has built sets at Club Laga for Crux Shadows, Carfax Abbey and Voltaire; has provided sets and costuming for the movie August Undergrounds Mordum by Toe Tag Pictures; has sold designs to clothing manufacturers; and has designed tattoo machines, flash and color for major suppliers in USA, England and Canada. D. has appeared in several books, newspapers, on television and in a movie titled "1000 Miles from Nowhere".D. has an avid appetite for all things unusual or offbeat, including but not limited to: Horror, Gothic Culture, Voodoo, Hoodoo, Sideshow, Circus, Lowbrow and Outsider Art, the Goth-Industrial Scene, Monsters, Skulls, Autopsy tools, Witchcraft and Religions of different cultures, Hot rods, Guns, Heavy Metal, Halloween, Power tools and D.Q. Flaming Hot Cheeseburgers.
Anyone who's worked in Europe has no doubt used and been in awe of RAPIDEX. If you haven't used the product, you're in for a real surprise. If you hate scrubbing tubes......If you're tired of using laundry detergent, floor cleaners, and substandard detergent mixes currently available in the U.S., then you owe it to yourself and your shop to try out RAPIDEX!!! Use it as a soak when you're done tattooing and also in the ultrasonic. Your tubes will shine like you've never seen before, and if you do have to hand scrub a few, it will be virtually effortless! But don't take my word for it, email me your studio address and I'll send you a FREE sample! I'll even pay the postage! That's how confident I am that once you've tried RAPIDEX, you won't go back to anything else. You've got nothing to lose. If you already know how much you love the stuff, it is offered at the price of $59.99 per box of 50 sachets, plus $5.00 shipping in the lower 48 states. This is enough for one person for an entire year on average. A small price to pay for the work and time you'll save. RAPIDEX is available only through Sweet Baby Octane in the U.S.A.
