Palm Skin Productions

About Me

Palm Skin – founder of tooth-cutting Mo’ Wax project Palm Skin Productions, countless 12”s,Ep’s, live gigs and DJ sets around the world fromTokyo and Sydney to Aberdeen and Ravensburg. Taken from the emperor’s new label of Mo’ Wax into the lush vales of Virgin for the first LP ‘Remilixir’. Kidnapped to record, play live and DJ for Neneh Cherry – led into innumerable studios to produce Youssou N’Dour, R.E.M, Gabrielle...sucked into Howie B’s tentacled Pussyfoot Records to release the second LP‘Kunstruk’... destined to tour Europe and Scandinavia with two lapdancers and a sleeper bus commandeered by a fugitive from the French foreign legion...all the while Djing and remixing – names and faces flash past in the foaming wake:
Fabric, 333, Galliano, UFO, TheRex, The Batofar, Global Communications, Maffia, Spacer, Earl Zinger... playing live for King Kooba, spinning as an opener for Art Of Noise, scratching live for Scare Electric, summoning live dub frenzies for Chris Bowden... Palm Skin – father of myriad offshoots – Cousin Grizzly for Tummy Touch, Boswick Gates for Om Records, South Sea Bubble for Pussyfoot, Moustache for discerning followers of camp German electro-tache everywhere, and now playing with The Bays, the absolute royalty of live improvised electronica...

2005 saw Palm Skin’s debut EP onFreerange entitled ‘So Bad’. This varied 3-tracker gave an insight into his darker, heavy dancefloor friendly capabilities and could be heard being dropped by all the top jocks from across the house spectrum. His follow up ‘Love Will Go’ dropped hard in May ’06 on the "Year of The Muppet" EP on Freerange, alongside the tracks "Leave Me Again" and "Get Live Tonight". 2007 saw the release of the "Fall Away" EP on Freerange, with remixes by Johnny Fiasco and Milton Jackson and also including the track "Wrecked".

2007 also saw Palm Skin Productions remix Manuel Tur, Hipp-E and Ski Oakenfull, all the while continuing to DJ and play live with The Bays everywhere from Goa to Tokyo, via Glastonbury, Glasgow and swanky, top-notch poncy London venue The Barbican. As well as on Bays' occupied stages, Palm Skin has been seen contributing live keyboard work to John Metcalfe's sublime part-classical part-ambient part drum and bass ensemble, not to mention playing for Tom Middleton's Lifetracks project and the deep ambience of Ayota for Ski Oakenfull, founder of the impeccable Primaudial label.

Complex legal wrangles forbid any mention of the sneaky 2007 release of Pacific Rim Dubs vol1 EP, but the forthcoming Palm Skin Productions track "Lose It" can be found on the imminent 100th release of the altogether more wholesome Freerange label.

Dark Energy Recordings

Artist: Palm Skin Productions
Title: Done
Format: MP3 Album
Cat No.: DE004
Release Date: 20th April 2009 ( Beatport.com ), 18th May 2009 (General)

Fourth time round here at Dark Energy Recordings and after the success of Daniel Kyo's "Shake It" EP we bring you the mighty Palmskin Productions.

Discerning DJs should know Palmskin from his previous EPs on Freerange. The trainspotters amongst you will remember him from way back when on the Mo'Wax label.

Palmskin's Done has been parked firmly in our CD wallet for some time now and has been slowly gathering steam ahead of this official release. The breakdown in Done is an absolute monster and has raised the roof during recent Milton Jackson & Shur-i-kan gigs.

Talking of Shur-i-kan, the man himself steps up for remix duties and remains respectful to the original whilst injecting some additional dancefloor energy to the groove. This is coupled together with a Curly-esque growling bassline for maximum impact. Bass-bin insurance is probably a good move before playing this out!

Finishing off the package is a warped and wonderful track called Pig Iron. With its twisted chords, amazing ambience and subtle jazz touches this will appeal to the deeper heads and fans of Pepe Bradock's earlier releases.

Guillame Gambel

"simply ridiculous (and I mean that quite positively). the original might have just made my hotel room walls melt. or at least it seems that way from the musical psychotropics this tune has injected into my brain. Shur-I-Kan mix comes correct as well. it all fits in nicely in my wilder sets, and they are all a little bit wild these days. cheers for it!"
Q-Burns Abstract Message

"Ah yes, yes please! I remember Barry Milton J playing 'Done' in a mix a while back, had to ask him about it and I'm very pleased to have it now to play - It's wicked. Shur-i-kan mix is a piece of class as well. Finishing off with the deepness of Pig Iron, this EP is really really good. Thanks A"
