About Me

My life was mostly about music and radio for over 17 years. Now, while I still love music, I'm more focused on being a wife and mom.The radio ride began during my sophomore year at the University of Texas at Austin when I started an internship at KBTS (B93). How I managed to never miss a class, a good party, and my 6am start time at the radio station is still a mystery. At the Top 40 music station, I portrayed the character 'Heavy Metal Holly', since I was always banging my head to the latest rock music. Upon graduation from U.T. in 1991, I was offered a full-time job at B93 as Executive Producer of the Mike Butts Morning Show AND got to be on the air for one night a week from midnight to 6am as 'The Debster'.In 1992, I accepted a job as News Director/Morning Co-Host at KTBQ (Q107) in Nacogdoches, TX. After a year, I moved to Paducah, KY, to be the Production Director and mid-day host at WDDJ. Eventually I was promoted to Music Director.I enjoyed doing Top 40 radio for those first few years, but was really excited in 1996 to accept the Music Director/Afternoon Drive slot at KCMQ in Columbia, MO. We were a brand new Active Rock station in the market and had the opportunity to host many shows at the Blue Note, along with killer promotions. I was eventually promoted to Program Director. In 1998, I took at job in Huntington, WV, as Program Director for 2 rock stations (WAMX and WFXN) and did afternoons on X 106.3. I was so lucky to interview a ton of great bands and help put together several huge festivals like X-fest. It was here that I met Jason (my hubby) at a Kid Rock show in October 1998.As 2001 kicked off, I was offered the chance to move back home to Texas as Director of Programming for Clear Channel Radio in Beaumont. I managed 5 stations and did mid-days on KIOC (Big Dog 106). In June of 2002, Jason barged into the studio and proposed. How could I say no? I was live on the air! :) We were married in March of 2003. That same year, I moved to mornings on FOX radio AND started my own company called Weddings by Deborah. The most exciting part of my life happened in 2004 when I became pregnant. I had wanted to be a mom for a long time and was thrilled when Chase arrived in April of 2005. He is truly amazing! Later in 2005, we were forced to evacuate from Beaumont as Hurricane Rita came our way. While the damage to our home could be fixed, Chase's daycare was destroyed; so, I got to be a stay-at-home mom for several months. Knowing we couldn't afford for me to stay at home for too long, I went back to work doing Public Relations for the Better Business Bureau in February of 2006.Besides hanging with Chase, I work out at the Health & Wellness Center, attend Praise Christian Center, and volunteer my time with the Press Club of Southeast Texas; in fact, I was elected President for 2009!
