Three Chord Statement; a four-piece indie rock group out of Grand Rapids Michigan, was formed (in its current state) in the fall of 2005. The band had evolved from its original state over the course of a little over a year and due to the help of several past bands, has become a quickly rising name on the Grand Rapids music scene. They've played with national acts: Greenwheel, Kevin Max (formerly of DC Talk), Nevertheless, and Disciple, as well as the many other gigs they play regularly.
TCS strives to bring something new to the table while still holding on to the fading torch of rock and roll. With a drive and depth not seen in most music today, it’s hard to say that these guys are anything but typical for today’s standards. While the energy and theatrics of their stage show are enough to pull you in, it’s hardly the only reason to stick around. So get up, step closer, raise a fist and bob your head as the bass and drums rattle your innards and drive your movements, while the guitars rock your world, bringing you hard rocking riffs and soaring solos. It's all this, coupled with a more pop rock feel on the vocal end of things and lyrics that give you a sense of wanting something better for a fallen world. That's what sets this band apart from the rest.
To them, music is not just a part time garage hobby and it’s more than just a career. It’s a way of life that can be used to express a want and a need for something better in this life and the next. A way to say there’s something better than all of this. All of this chaos and destruction we all have to deal with on a daily basis. Whether it’s the junk we see every day on the news or the things we deal with inside.
That’s the statement their recently released EP is trying to make. “Better Than All of This†is the inner most thoughts, hopes, dreams and creative abilities of the members of TCS in a package that just doesn’t hold it all. When the band set out to make an album, they anticipated being able to but out a 10-12 song album, but after beginning the project, realized that they could put out a better example of their work by starting out with an EP. The 5 song EP will include songs: “One Lonely Voiceâ€, which paints a picture of a youth that “cries out for attention†in a world that is more often than not cruel and not accepting, yet hope can be just a prayer away, and the title track “Better Than All of This", which is simply a statement that there is something better than the everyday of this broken world.
