When you look at August Alsina, the first thing you see is a typical teenager living life and having fun, but if you look a little deeper and listen, what you'll find will amaze you. There is an understated maturity about him...and also a drive to be the best at what he does...and what he does is sing.
August was born and raised in New Orleans Louisiana, but currently resides in Houston, Tx. He played sports and games like every other kid his age, and no one suspected what talent was growing inside him. It wasn’t until August left Louisiana and moved to the home town of a phenomenal singer, Beyonce, that he began to realize that he had been gifted with an amazing singing voice. But being the shy kid that he was, he kept it to himself until one day when he, his brother, and a friend, were in a car waiting as his mother in a store. He looked at his brother and said, if I sing for you, you can’t tell anyone. His brother agreed, knowing that afterwards he would be able to tease him about how bad it was...and then August began to sing. August’s brother went crazy and began yelling and screaming “This boy can sing, this boy can sing!” His brother couldn’t wait to tell his mother and as soon as she returned, that was exactly what he did. She didn’t believe him, so she asked August to perform for her. August let his shyness overwhelm him and couldn’t do it. So not to embarrass her son anymore then she could tell he already was, she dropped the issue.
Weeks later, August’s mother thought she heard the radio playing while August was doing his homework (which wasn’t allowed ). She stormed in and asked, in her very parental voice, “What is that radio doing on?” August looked up from his assignment and said “what radio?” After earlier watching Lauryn Hill sing,“ His Eye is On the Sparrow” (from the movie Sister Act 2), he would find himself singing that same song like it belonged to him - which was what he had been doing before his mom entered. He quickly recognized what she was talking about and before she could speak again, he responded “Oh, that was me singing.” She couldn’t believe her ears until he stood up and sang for her. She was blown away by the extraordinarily mature and gifted voice that was coming out of her son. Her obvious pride and joy covered him like a blanket and it was at that moment that August realized that singing was what he wanted to do. Wanting to prove how serious he was, he began spending long hours rehearsing, trying to perfect what some called “an amazing gift from god.”
Over the next few years , August got to share his talent by singing in church and in competing in talent shows, where he won “Best Male Vocalist” and “Best in Show”. He also received more over all “1st Place awards” then he could count. August watched and listen as his dream of becoming a professional singer moved closer to becoming a reality. This became extremely evident after August launched his Myspace page, and downloaded video of him singing on Youtube. His fan base quickly climbed to staggering numbers and he began getting the kind of love usually reserved for superstars. Young girls were going crazy for his voice and his swagger and young guys began wishing they were him. Through it all, August just took it all in stride - never taking it too seriously and always remembering what was important.
Ever since launching his myspace page, numerous people constantly stops by to leave encouraging comments and to check out what is going on with the future R&B superstar. Now getting his career on the move, August is beginning to record original music and will then begin to look for a major label to call home.
