From a very young age in Portugal I started playing pencils and pens on my open books on the class room table. I was amazed by the numerous different sounds I could make on those books.
I always remember a special interest from an early age for percussion and everything related to the music industry and its affiliates. At 13 I set up my first band playing drums on old cans and decorated cymbals. On my 15th birthday I got my first drum kit, and since then I haven’t stopped.
I’ve always wanted to know more about music and discover its mysteries and my potential at unlocking them. From 17 I studied classical percussion in Portugal (Grade 8 – Escola Profissional de Artes da Beira Interior). This would be the beginning of a journey that would change the way I see music for ever.
With the competent understanding of music from the most basic form to the most complex, I acquired the capacity to deal with the most basic project to the most challenging one from symphonic performances, jazz and Latin based music to improvised cacophony.
In 2004 at the age of 23 I came to London to pursue a dream. Since then I have been performing with a few groups and in session/teaching environments. I am currently completing my B.Mus in Popular Music Performance.Projects:The Impossible is an improvisational collective that has been performing frequently in recent days on the London underground squat circuit and have had good responses from their French and Welsh endeavors, you can catch us at our monthly residence in Deptford, South East London. The Uncles of Funk are primarily a blues based trio with rock and funk elements added, you can catch us at our weekly residence hosting at the New Cross Inn Blues Jam on Sunday afternoons.Make it groovy… ; )
