About Me

Thank you for making the second annual TeatroStageFest a smashing success! For two weeks, New York celebrated great theater from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain, side by side with New York Latino theater companies!Spain’s Teatro La Zaranda triumphed in Los Que Rien Los Ultimos (Those Who Laugh Last), the magical epic journey of a group of Andalucian ragtag performers, and Carlota Llano in Mujeres en La Guerra (Women in War), provided a gripping portrayal of four real-life women who bravely face war-torn days in Colombia. Teatro de Chile’s cutting edge Narciso (Narcissus) was a sold out sensation with its blend of physical theater and pop music, and Teatro Doble Ve's Harina and Guardavidas (Flour and Lifeguard) revealed “the other” Argentina we rarely hear about. From New York, audiences raved about Repertorio Espanol’s comedic stage adaptation of Brazilian novel Dona Flor y sus dos Maridos (Dona Flor and her two husbands). Bronx based Hostos Repertory Company brought us Borinquen Lives in El Barrio, a politically charged drama about the cultural contradictions of a Puerto Rican family in East Harlem. Thalia Spanish Theatre’s Picasso Flamencount of Orgaz, journeyed into the mind and art of Pablo Picasso, and Teatro SEA delighted family audiences with the classic children’s zarzuela La Muela del Rey Farfan (The Toothache of King Farfan).TeatroStageFest 2008 and The New York Times saluted Broadway's talento with two TimesTalks featuring John Leguizamo (Freak), Lin Manuel Miranda (In The Heights), Bianca Marroquin (Chicago), Graciela Daniele (Ragtime), and Eugenio Derbez (Latinologues). The popular Artist Panel Series at Instituto Cervantes revealed the artistic process of actors, directors, playwrights and opera singers. Our celebrated Concert and Comedy Nights at Joe's Pub spotlighted not-to-be-missed solo performances by Bianca Marroquin, legendary multi-Grammy nominated Bobby Sanabria and his Quarteto Ache, and INTAR Theatre’s stand-up comedy divas Marga Gomez and Camelita Tropicana.Make sure to join our mailing list for year-round TeatroStageFest updates and special ticket discounts. Check out our News Flash box for free outdoor performances of Borinquen Lives in El Barrio this August, and come back in the fall for newly scheduled events!
