About Me

Stewy was born into a musical family in 1962. He started piano lessons at the Conservatory of Berne when he was eight, and studied classical music for about 10 years. He enrolled in the famous Swiss Jazz School in Berne, where he teaches today, in 1995 and graduated in 1998.
In 1990 Stewy founded his Trio, which became one of his favourite formations. In unnumerous projects from solo piano to Bigband he became also a very experienced and demanded accompanist. He worked with many of the worlds greatest jazz musicians, such as Art Farmer, Clark Terry, Alvin Queen, George Robert, Bobby Shew, Bob Mintzer, Johnny Griffin, Ryan Kisor, Eric Alexander, Joe Ascione, Sandy Patton, Dusko Goykovic, John Allred, Ed Neumeister, Reggie Johnson, Greg Gisbert, Dany Doriz, Rhonda Dorsey, Sharon Harris, Bert Joris a.o. and with the most valid players of the Swiss scene: Domenic Landolf, Alex Hendriksen, Nick Perrin, Pius Baschnagel, Daniel Schläppi, Tobias Friedli, Daniel Woodtli, Christoph Grab, Lance Beyeler, Christoph Sprenger, Martin Streule, Bänz Oester, Daniel Schenker, Mats Spillman, Roman Schwaller, Christian Münchinger, Sandro Schneebeli, Rolf Häsler, Daniel Aebi, Giorgos Antoniou, Bernhard Bamert, Pascal Dussex, Elmar Frey, Herbie Kopf, Christoph Schweizer, Samuel Zingg, a.m.o.
Performing at national and international jazz festivals has also been an important part of Stewy’s musical life. Stewy played with his Trio or as an accompanist at many national and international festivals:
