I hope that was large enough. Geesh!

Next shows: June 13, 20, 27

Thank you to everyone attending our recent shows, especially the 2nd Anniversary Show AND the McShane Baby Shower & Roast. Also, thanks to Mike McShane for screening his film "You Are Not Frank Sinatra" at the show. We love movies about local poetry!

WE LOVE short theater, stand-up comedy, visual art, performance art, and acoustic and experimental music. ALL poetry styles--from academic to hip hop--are WELCOME.

If you are coming from out of town, please contact me ahead of time.

Listeners, readers, and fans WELCOME!

There is OPEN MIC at every show

The Word Is Spoken! is a free speech forum.

In January 2007, Gainesville sculptor/painter Kayla Prommersberger introduced Orlando novelist/spoken-word artist Joe Pasquale ("The Nude Bandit") to Gainesville writer/poet/gadfly David Maas ... and The Word Is Spoken! was born.
David organizes spoken word shows in an around Gainesville and helps aspiring poets get recorded, published, and featured at shows.

POETRY SHOWS - based in Gainesville, FL. Most of the shows are here, but Gainesville poets and friends sometimes hit the road. We'll eventually come to your neighborhood.
Many poets are featured regularly. TWIS! connects with poets in ThirdEyeSpoken and at the CMC Poetry Jam, and members of the Letterbomb Collective, Gainesville Poets and Writers, and One Nation

Did you miss Tom Miller reading his classic poem "Bum" at The Word Is Spoken! on August 24, 2007?

The Word Is Spoken! was featured in the October 2007 issue of Satellite Magazine (Gainesville, FL).
