About Me

Phil is an accomplished singer/ guitarist and songwriter who has spent twenty years in New Zealand and is married to a Kiwi lady. He recently rediscovered his love for the Folk Tradition of his native England, became a full-time performer and has been based in England since 2008. Phil now divides his time between the UK (where he lives and performs from April to December each year), and New Zealand (where he lives, records and performs from January to March each year). He is available for folk and acoustic gigs at clubs, festivals and concerts throughout the UK, NZ and OZ over these periods. In concert, Phil engages easily with audiences, and you can expect to hear his own unique arrangements of songs from the English and other traditions, self-penned material, and odd contemporary pieces that occasionally take his fancy. Phil: "This video of a folk song from the English Tradition was recorded in the rumpus room of our beach house in beautiful Hot Water Beach, Coromandel, New Zealand in early 2008 and features my hand-made Yamaha Lotus LJ26 guitar." My Interests

Music:

Band Website: http://www.intomusic.co.uk/PhilDrane
Band Members: I bought a Kay acoustic for £15 when I was seventeen - it had an action like an egg slicer. Since then I have always play Yamaha guitars and I'm now the proud owner of two hand-made Yamaha Lotus guitars with dream actions. This is another Folk song from the English Tradition and features my LS16 concert guitar.
Influences: Nic Jones, Martin Carthy of course, Nancy Kerr/ James Fagan, Bob Fox, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, my Englishness, and Robert Brown, Suffolk musician extraordinaire, whose dynamism and enthusiasm for live music are to be envied. FRIENDS: PLEASE NOTE I ONLY ADD FRIENDS I HAVE MET. If that's you, then do send me an add!!
Sounds Like: Nobody, I hope, since I arrange all my music, including traditional songs to be uniquely mine and to appeal to a wide audience. Last year I did a 2-hour lunchtime concert in the Hot Waves Cafe, Hot Water Beach. Not one of the patrons was a 'folkie', but it still received a wonderful reception. This is a tune I wrote during the after-gig celebration and for reasons entirely to do with alcohol, I called it Wobby Legs ...............FOR BOOKING ENQUIRIES email: [email protected] TO BUY/ DOWNLOAD TRACKS & FREEBIES: www.intomusic.co.uk/PhilDrane
