It is not promised that everyone will make it into the music industry and when growing up as the troublemaker the road to success is definitely a bumpy one. Struggles began since the day Terry was born on August 7th 1984 in Roxboro, North Carolina just outside of Durham. A few hours after he was brought into this world, his great grandmother passed away. Little did he know that this was just the beginning of his problems and tribulations as he began his journey while moving to the Northside of Atlanta, Georgia.
Growing up as the youngest child in a household consisting of an alcoholic mother and a careless father, Terry had no choice but to exchange his toys with responsibility. Going through all the struggles, pain, and anger, Terry’s attitude changed and gave his name, Temper Boi, more than just a meaning. Not only does his name define who he is and describes his childhood but it also portrays the energy of his music. Temper Boi has faced many obstacles and life changing experiences whether it was being involved in the drug game or fighting in school or even robbery. His turning point was when he slid his car on the highway and almost died which was the way God was demonstrating that it was time for Temper Boi to take a different direction with his life.
Temper Boi is a walking example of passion and dedication. His music is the true definition of creativity. He allows himself to open up and express his feelings in his music and accepts the fact that he is not perfect and will continue on learning from his mistakes. He does not try to keep up with the others and tries to be as different as possible. Temper Boi is also currently taking over another one of his aspirations and following his father’s footsteps by cutting hair at his own barbershop. Surprisingly, the majority of his connections are made through his barber chairs. Till this day Terry stays true to himself by focusing on his grind and his label One Day Entertainment.
Most importantly, his creative insight is what motivates him to continue making music. He allows his dreams to create the song and his body and tribulations to manifest the lyrics. Music is deeper than what we hear and Temper Boi’s goal is not to out rap or out write any starving/successful artist but to be living proof that creative dreams can over power any God-given talent. He is the main reason teenagers scream, “I am who I am†out in these Northside streets.
