About Me

My life is pretty much music – it occupies my waking thoughts and most of my dreams. I teach guitar at Parkland College, and also head up their Dixieland Jazz Ensemble. These are positions I’m honored to have, and have enjoyed being on faculty there more and more as the years go by. When I’m not teaching at Parkland I give private music lessons at Corson Music on W. Main in Urbana (217-367-3898). My students range from those who already make a living playing music and just want to hone their skills to those who are just beginning to play. I’m happy teaching guitar, banjo, mandolin and bass.I gig often, either with my band of twelve years, The Prairie Dogs, or with local Jazz makers or friends in Nashville. Sometimes I spend my days running sound for local folks or as a stagehand to some big acts that travel through my area (“Stagehand to the Stars” is what I think to myself as I drive home dead tired at 4:00 AM after a five tractor trailer load out). And when I’m not playing stagehand to the stars I’ll sometimes help out my fiddling friend, Robin Kearton, who heads up the Bow-Dacious String Band and runs the Bow-Dacious Sting Camp each summer; she’s dedicated to teaching the young musicians of our area (and from all across the US during the summer camp) about traditional string music. I’ve been dubbed the “Groove Enforcer” at the camp and wear that title with pride. These young kids are so great to work with and teach.I play guitar and banjo, as well as mandolin, fiddle, bass, and a percussion instrument I call the Wizz Bang. I believe in getting all the notes right and in the correct order, so it’s not uncommon for me to practice a song hundreds of times before I am halfway satisfied with it. Some of the great classical pieces, I’ve heard, were practiced thousands of times before perfection was achieved, and that is the sort of dedication I admire and aspire to.The Prairie Dogs have just spent some time in the studio, so look for a new EP soon, and more tunes on this page.Editor's Note: This bio was written by Jordan's friend, "Ghost Writer for the Page" and he's really not responsible for what I've said or posted. So if the bragging seems too extreme, or the spelling too amuck, you must forgive him, really, and blame me, the unidentified Ghost Writer. As I like to remind Jordan: "ya git what cha pay fer."Jordan Kaye on Granny's Porch
