Dorien Starre

Since what officially remains the weirdest first gig of all time at the Metropole Hotel in Leeds in late 2007... Melodramatic-popsters Dorien Starre are kicking on.
“I knew as soon as I walked into the place that the serious looking group of black tied clad city professionals networking inside weren’t going to dig the band. The enthusiastic friend who had booked us should have got a Celine Dion impersonator: something safe. It was a triumph for not giving a monkeys though and we made every effort to annoy the po-faced onlookers” swoons Leo the band’s frontman (as quoted recently).
The open and expressive tone of Leo’s melody set against drummer Andy’s infectious rhythm give Ian (guitar) & Al (bass) the drama to crank up a theatrical style. Intoxicated by the same air that bands like Wild Beasts suck in: live shows are punctuated by blistering guitar and disco beats that thump and barge frivolity at the audience; novel, very fun.
Occasionally a young man by the name of Dorien shows up at gigs.
Dorien is rumored to have had a pretty big influence on the band and there’s a lot of talk about who he is and what his relationship with them.
The band is keen to clear the air on that, and our first EP which is anticipated later this year will give out some clues.
The band can be seen at regular shows in Leeds where they mostly live but York too, where they feel quite at home also.
