When Michiel (guitar), Gert (drums) and Nico (vocals) came together towards the end of 2006 and started sharing some musical and lyrical ideas, they soon recaptured the same urge and passion that had put them out on the road for large parts of the past four years.
Earlier that year Michiel and Gert had played their final show with their band Dead Stop. Going out with a blast, the hardcore-punk group left a definite mark on the European and American punk scene. Shortly after, labelmates and acclaimed punkgroup Restless Youth called it quits, leaving drummer Nico without a band but full of eager and new ideas.
The four of them getting together was a logical conclusion of the camaraderie and musical bond they had build while touring and playing shows together in the past. All four shared a creative vision that soon resulted in some raw material.
However, the new collaboration was put to an early halt. As Michiel became too busy with his other current band Creature With The Atom Brain and other bandmembers had their own things going on and getting in the way, the band was put on indefinite hiatus.
In October 2007 the group started rehearsing again.
The group –now called The Reactionaries- were looking for a bassplayer.
Within a few weeks Nico ran into Ernst-Jan. The bass player for Duke Resurection auditioned and quickly proved to be an ideal addition to the group. In the meanwhile, Wim joined on guitar.
Inspired by playing their initial songs again and the fresh input and contributions by Ernst & Wim, The Reactionaries started working on new material. With their feet firmly planted in punk but their minds scorching new artistic boundaries, the band is now in the process of realizing a distinctive and unique sound of their own. Demo recordings have been done in March 2008 and recordings for the upcoming record are finished.
This will be an 8 track counting LP released by Deranged Records from Canada. Deranged will be responsible for worldwide distribution.
