JOEL JAWARA ELLISA founding member of the music and poetry ensemble “Jah Childrenâ€,
Joel is a prolific writer and captivating performer with solid
training and experience both in the performing arts and martial arts.He is a regular voice at the monthly sessions hosted by the Poetry
Society of Jamaica, and has blessed the microphone at all the major
spoken word events Jamaica with impressive results. As a young
wordsmith he has been lauded for the maturity and depth of his poetry,
as well as the intensity of his stage presence. Joel also mentors and
produces other young aspiring artistes at his RAVE Entertainment
studio based in Portmore, St. Catherine. He recently accompanied one
of his young charges to an audition for the Tastee Talent contest, and
decided on a whim to enter. He made it all the way to the semi final
round with his gripping poetic commentary on Jamaican Dance Hall.Joel is also widely regarded as one of the top Jamaican stars in
karate and kickboxing and holds the rank of third degree black belt.
He is certified as an international kickboxing competitor by the
International Sports Karate Association. He has also represented
Jamaica as part of the National Combined Martial Arts Team, and held
the position as local lightweight champion.He was honoured for his involvement in the Martial Arts with the 2004
Prime Minister’s Youth Award for Excellence in the field of sports.

Ellis is a graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and
Performing Arts, and currently teaches Theatre Arts at Cumberland High
