The Grady Family Band consisted of Will Grady, his wife Elva, his daughter Ethel Mae, and his two sons Vernon (my father) and Paul. The last living member of the troupe, Paul, died at age 84 on June 20th, 2008. Graveside service was held at Salem United Methodist Church.
Mr Grady taught the boys to play, and at one point early in his life, played the organ for silent movie theatres. Vernon and Paul later grew up to play with big bands of the 1940's, playing the trumpet and trombone respectively, playing with such names as Sammy Graham, Hal Wasson, Mary Marshal, Troy Crouch, Frank Love, and potentially Les Brown if Vernon had not been drafted into the War (WW2). Vernon has played with or opened up for the likes of Tommy Dorsey, Les Paul, and Louis Armstrong.
They recorded these two songs in Atlanta Georgia on December 7th, 1930. Side A was Carolina's Best, and Side B was Gold Diggers. It was originally released as a record single in 1930 by Columbia, label number 15633-D.
If anyone has any information on this band please please please let me know.
