Alexander Campkin

About Me


Alexander is a composer and conductor of instrumental and choral music. He finished a BA in Music at the University of Oxford in 2005, where he was Choral Scholar at St. Catherine’s College, Assistant Organ Scholar at Trinity College, and conductor of the Oxford Chamber Choir and Arcadian Singers of Oxford University. He completed a Masters in Composition at the Royal Academy of Music in 2008, and is presently taking a Postgraduate Diploma in Vienna at the Universität für Musik.
In 2008 Alexander was appointed Composer-in-Residence in Neresheim Abbey in Germany and Composer-in-Residence of the Fulham Camerata. Other commissions have been from the Southbank Centre, the Royal School of Church Music, the Manson Ensemble, the Royal Academy String Orchestra, the Kaxan String Quartet and Pusey House Choir, Oxford.
Alexander’s composition Scan was highly commended in the BBC Proms Young Composers’ Competition, with extracts played on BBC Radio 3. He has recently been nominated as a finalist in the 2008 British Composer Awards. He is Composer-in-Residence in Germany and of the Fulham Camarata.
Other commissions have been from the Southbank Centre, the Royal School of Church Music, the Manson Ensemble, the Royal Academy String Orchestra, the Kaxan String Quartet and Pusey House Choir, Oxford.
His music has received performances by the London Sinfonietta, the BBC Singers, the London Oratory Choir, and in music festivals in the UK and Europe. His music has been the subject of a number of radio broadcasts in the UK, US and South America.

Competition & TV event

Alexander Campkin's composition 'Soft Snow' was selected for performance for the BBC GoSing event. The concert is in the BBC Broadcasting House on 9 July, and it will be filmed by the BBC for TV.
