HISSY FIT GYPSY

About Me

First of all lets get the main question taken care of before we go into the band biography, "are you guys breaking up?" The simple answer to this is, "HELL NO!" Two of the band members, Lance and Gary, have doubled up on hours on their day jobs, which doesn't leave a lot pf sanity time when you throw in an added 4 to 6 hours on that playing out live in the clubs. Now it is likely from time to time that Lance will be playing some solo acoustic gigs and those will be posted at his MySpace site as they happen. This is primarily to earn some extra cash and just to get out and keep his fingers nimble. Tom is rejoining his old band Flipside which is a well-known band in the region and commands high dollars for their performances, so, he'll be able to make a living playing music as that is all he does. But we cannot stress this seriously enough, WE ARE NOT DISSOLVING THE BAND!!! We have all reflected and know that Hissy Fit Gypsy is a diamond of a band, but, we feel we can get farther by merely taking a hiatus for much of this next year to concentrate on writing and recording original material for a CD we hope to release in 2009. Then we can concentrate on booking showcase gigs only, such as opening for big name bands or playing shows with multiple bands, where we only have to play an hour or so and NOT need to perform cover songs! That will make it worth while for us to play live again. We've all been in this business for a long time and we've decided it's our time to attempt a try at the big-time or semi-big-time. So wish us luck and stay right here as our friends as we'll be posting blogs letting everyone know how our progress is going. Thanks for your interest and support! We'll see you all again sooner then you can imagine! :) But be sure to support the 2009 solo acts of each one of the Hissy Fit Gypsy members!Main band website - www.myspace.com/hissyfitgypsyLance - www.myspace.com/stratocastermaster61Tom - www.myspace.com/funkinonthebass www.411flipside.com www.myspace.com/411flipsideGary - not available at this time.During the 1960’s and 70’s, rock went through of period of evolution. Before corporate bean counters got their hands on it and categorized it and spoon-fed the most horrible of it to the masses. The period when names like Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Cream and a little known band The Yardbirds that would soon become Led Zeppelin were all making their mark on music. This was a period that can never be replicated as the bands of the modern ages lack the feel and in most cases talent to take that step over the edge. Remember these bands made their sounds without processing, without drum machines or loops and certainly without the technical prowess of this day and age. Yet, the mark these bands made artistically shall never die, when the ordinary band of today has been chewed up and spit out like day old bubble gum! This is the period that Hissy Fit Gypsy takes you to. Yes the band plays it’s own original material as well as cover material by many of the greatest artists of the 60’s and 70’s but it is done, as it was done then, with tube amplifiers turned to 11, Fender or Gibson guitars (Jackson’s with Floyd Rose’ are not allowed), Fender Basses and miked drums all in the “Power Trio” format! So if you are a music aficionado, a lover of that period of music, or someone that just wants to find out what it was all about, then Hissy Fit Gypsy is the band for you! Hissy Fit Gypsy is the culmination of many years of musical love, experience and experimentation. The members of the band met and formed out of the ashes of the now defunct 3AM Band. They had all been searching for that ever elusive, particular sound. After having the chance to rehearse and perform in their current 3-piece format they discovered what it was they had been searching for this entire time, a couple of them, had been searching and struggling to find for many years. Hissy Fit Gypsy is a power trio unlike any performing today, they bring a seemingly totally renewed commitment to rock and roll and a sense of superior musicianship and stagecraft to all of the songs performed. Which for all sense and purposes has become a lost art form for many modern rock acts performing internationally these days. Hissy Fit Gypsy emphasizes superior playing, singing, songwriting and improvisational performance steeped in blues, hard rock, funk, folk and at times country which makes older audience members reminisce of a freer time when rock and roll had no labels, was truly experimental, improvisational and could leave an imprint on the heart forever. But the band also gives its younger audience members a strong and lasting impression of something new, powerful and very fresh! Leading the bands charge is guitarist extraordinaire, Lance Harrison. With more experience as a die-hard musician then even he would care to admit to, his guitar style is a welcome change from modern “rhythm only” players of the day. Exacting every riff, note, chord, feel and vibe as if to bring his Fender Stratocaster to life. It is very easy to see why Lance cites Jimi Hendrix as his guitar-God. Laying the groove for the band is Gary Perfect. He is one of the most phenomenal drummers playing live music today. Having played all over the country and parts of the world Gary has brought together a vast world influence to his drumming. He has strong chops and can use them at any time he likes with incredible precision and feel but he always makes his groove the priority, which is always wide and strong. This is a very welcome change for his partner in groovedom, Tom Murphy on the Fender bass. Tom’s no nonsense approach and take no prisoners attitude is what drives the power behind the band. Much like Gary, Tom has many years of road experience and has constructed a very large palette of abilities playing different musical styles, Tom lays his earthshaking, foundation cracking, groove right in an audiences face, but at least he’s nice about it and cleans up the mess he's left behind. Another thing that sets the trio apart from other bands is that everyone sings, so the band not only has a larger then life sound from their instrumentation but vocally they are a choir unto themselves. All of these things combine to make Hissy Fit Gypsy not just another alternative to other bands playing, but the “only” alternative. Audiences will be shocked and stunned at how these veteran musicians come together and set a place on fire! Hissy Fit Gypsy proves they aren’t just one of your dad’s favorite bands or for that matter, just another local garage band, they are a band for the masses, young and old alike! So keep visiting the Hissy Fit Gypsy MySpace page so you can show your support for the band! Let the party begin!
