In a classic DIY spirit he quickly took to organizing warehouse-parties with his friend JA-Jazz (Pepe Deluxé).Few years later legendary Club Deep followed, setting standards for the evolving club scene. Ever since his name has stood for quality among the groove aficionados in Finland. It's mostly house, funk, jazz and latin stuff that he collects, but as Ender admits he seems to have a soft spot for tracks with a deeper feel, maybe due to his techno background. "I'd like to see myself as a DJ who plays music - not genres", he points out.In 1998 Nuspirit Helsinki, an unorthodox collective of musicians and DJs, masterminded by Ender and Thomas K, was formed. Since it's first release on Guidance-label it has successfully sought new musical frontiers in the forefront of the nu-jazz scene. Lately, besides his remixes for labels such as Perfect Toy and Nuevo Ritmo, Ender has found time to experiment with new material as well. On this project, titled Math Union he is teaming-up again with his long time friend, JA Jazz. First MU releases can be expected to see daylight in the near future. More info click here Mwëslee [Arkestra-Kindred Spirits] Spain Mwëslee´s past is as diverse as the music he represents. The late 80´s and early 90´s served as an introduction to the culture of hip hop, skateboarding and new musical tastes via way of pirate radio cassettes. This opened up a new world of musical and cultural diversity which in the following years saw him not only play and sing in a range of musical groups but also on the side DJ in many important venues and locations at the time. Mwëslee it seems has never been closed or shy to embrace new styles which inevitable was and is reflected in much of the music he creates. Drum & Bass, Post Rock, Abstract Electronics to name just a few of the styles which has influenced his natural progression into the world of musical production / producer. Mwëslee can be credited as one of the founders of Arkestra in the late 90s. A hip hop underground collective based in Vigo[Spain]. Fast forwarding to the year 2006, where we see the arrival of ‘Nod Navigators'. A 12inch EP released on the Dutch label Kindered Spirits. According to the label managers it was a.”…demo so good we had to change our label policy into a label for beat creators worldwide...”. They described it as “... very musical with an electronic twist” which. “...should appeal to fans of Prefuse 73, Sa-Ra, Dabrye...”. The release of classic track "Niomi's Dream" on Tom Middleton's Mixmag CD ("Jedi's Night Out") was a turning point and won many fans including Gilles Peterson, Pete Lawerence, LTJ Bukem and Mixmaster Morris. Tom subsequently introduced him to Jamie Odell (Jimpster, Audiomontage) at Freerange records - the scene was set and the first album "Advance" under the name "Shur-I-kan" was licensed and released in June 2001 to much critical acclaim - a trend continued with the third EP "Music". More info click here Steve Yanko [Truffle-Permanent Vacation] Toronto Born and bred in Toronto, Canada, Steve Yanko cut his teeth in the then small but growing local DJ scene. While initially making tracks on an ASR10 sampler, his obsession with live disco and recording grew to a current state of equipment madness. His hot imprint Truffle Music has quickly made its place in the world of electronic music, turning heads with releases and remixes by such acclaimed artists as Munk, Brennan Green, Dubious and Sans Soleil. All Stars Ticklejunk : : Mwëslee : : Soulphonic Soundsystem : : : Watch TV & The Primitives : : : : : Convention kills creativity. Casbah 73's second album shows that he fully understands this creed, combining his strong sense of musical roots with a healthy eclecticism. A soulfully fresh blend of jazz, disco, latin and electric soul, highlighted by a punky irreverence for styles and genres, “Pushin' Forty” is also a great leap forward for the artist. Conceived in the studio, the results are nevertheless a totally natural mix of instruments and samples, combining his musical talents and technical skills with the welcome new addition of vocals, including several contributions by Casbah himself. Surprisingly organic, extremely danceable, this is a rewarding collection of songs the listener can identify with, not a grab-bag of random studio knob-twiddles.: Opening number “Freshly Squeezed!” kicks things off in style, with a hip-popping groove which won't quit, featuring none other than Majka Edjo of Sweet Vandals fame laying down some liberated funk as only she can. And while we‘re talking party (we are!) “El Trafico Jam” is a slice of funky afro-disco hotness already slaying dancefloors everywhere with that instantly recognisable car horn sax riff.: Elsewhere, on “Welcome To The Casbah” we have underground NY rap legend Prince Po (who formed rap´s legendary Organized Konfusion with Pharoah Monche), spitting out some fresh & fiery rhymes in an uptempo style unlike anything he‘s done before. Up and coming New York singer Mariella Gonzalez shows she is a name to watch out for. Providing the vocals for “Vinyl Junkie”, she combines sassy soul with a raw funky delivery, even rapping at one point on the joys and pitfalls of a life spent digging in the crates.: Big bad basslines and funky beats, deep rhythmic journeys, trippy soul grooves or breezy skipping jazz vibes, it‘s all here. “Pushin' Forty” is a reflection of Casbah 73‘s extensive musical background, a journey which is clearly gaining momentum. So it's three cheers for those who celebrate life through music, “Pushin' Forty” - because life's too short for micro-genres!: Casbah 73 is currently being supported in the press with a substantial media campaign taking in several nationwide magazines including Spanish style-bible “Neo2,” a series of full page ads which also feature in prestigious international magazines such as Architectural Digest and Wallpaper. : Also available:: Casbah 73 “Moods & Grooves": V/A “Jazz Travels” compiled by Casbah 73: www.hitoprecords.com :
