About Me
I'm Charmain Andrews, 26 years old, born on February 5th 1983 at St. Barts Hospital.Born to parents Irene Clark and Uriel Andrews.
Mother is Scottish and father was Guyanese (passed away in 2001 RIP Daddy x).Spent the first 5 years of my life in Stoke Newington, in a flat on The High Street. Mummy was a Nurse, Daddy worked for BT (was a gambler and a drinker!)Lived in Scotland for 1 year, as my mother fleeded Domestic Violence.
(that was hell, only have vague memories, but was the only black child in the school...so you can just imagine)Moved to East Ham at the age of 6/7, good memories...i think lol!Moved to Hackney in 1992 and have been here ever since.I attended Daubeney Primary School for 2 years and then moved onto Secondary School, Cardinal Pole (woop woop...best school in Hackney!!).When i was about 12 maybe 13 years old, my Best Friend at the time, Abina Wilson-Esbrand asked me to sing for her, (we used to go into her Dad's bedroom and play all of his CD's) I sang an Aaliyah track (can't remember song) and surprised her and myself...I didn't really know that I could sing and was a very shy and insecure person who wouldn't believe i had talent anyway! At the age of 13 i met up with Shane Anderson, a really good keyboardist, singer/rapper. Shane was the one who really brought me out of my shell and helped me to realise my talent. We used to go to The Pedro Club (in square) and practice my singing, and I'd have an audience outside the door having a listen. I used to get so shy about performing for people, and i guess still didn't realise the power of my talent!I've worked with various artists and musicians who i met along the way and made some great music. I have seen alot and learnt alot about the way (sometimes) people and the industry can work!I went to a music College in London Bridge at 17 for a year to work on Artist Development and Vocal Training. I did a show when i completed course and it was amazing, this was probably the first time i realised how great i was (considering i had very little confidence) i blew the crowd away...i remember, everyone shouting more, more! That night did alot for my confidence, i had to believe i was good now!!! lolI worked in Ocean, Mare Street when i was 18 and used to sing at their Open Mic evenings, i loved that. I performed at quite a few open mic evenings all over London. I also had a show here to perform some of the work i did at college. I sang 3 of my songs with a live band, it was amazing (i love live music!)In 2004 i performed at The 291 Show in The Hackney Empire. I sang one of my own songs, 'Perfect Someone' (It's on here!) and knocked everybody off their feet! I got a standing ovation and everything, i had my family and friends there and i felt so good! nfortuately, i didn't win and yes was a sore loser, and yes i did deserve to win, but i guess that's what competitions are all about!Let me fast forward to now, today, Monday 11th May 2009...
where am I, who am I, what am I doing??? Good Question!!!
Well, I'm now working as a Support Worker with Ex-Offenders in Hackney and have been in this field of work since 2003!
I think i kind of forgot about my singing and more focused on getting a job, and getting paid. I am still very passionate about my singing, and would never give it up, but i think i lost my drive to go out and be a 'Go Getter!'
I became lazy, older and less bothered about, 'Making It!'I still love singing and this is why i'm updating my profile, to start networking with people again. So if you like what you've read, and like what you hear, then let me know.Love Charmain xxx
