Born in Wanganui, New Zealand, Bryan Colechin is the son of a Gypsy lay-preacher whose Stortebecker pirate ancestors swam to the antipodes to get rid of the law . When 14 he started to listen to the Walker Bros and The 13th Floor Elevators , forming his first band "X- 15", already on bass. Moved to Australia 1981 with Christchurch band the Newz. When the punk explosion hit Australia and bands like the Scientists, Moodists, Triffids, Go-betweens were all making ripples on the international scene and encouraging ossie bands to look at the U.K. and Europe ., Colechin hoisted his flag with various Melbourne bands such as, Black Sun, The Marching Girls, Crashland, Permanent Press, the Body Electric until he met Hugo Race and Robin Casinader. Since then he played various bands, even some obscure Berlin offshoots like Boothill , but remained steady with the Wreckery/Hugo Race And the True Spirit line up since its beginnings.
Apart from Hugo Race and the True Spirit, Colechin is currently working with Hellhound Brown and Phil Para.
