About Me

My mom just gave me a bunch of stuff from my childhood - including a fully notated song I wrote when I was about 10 or so. I didn’t remember writing it down like that - funny to see it all these years later.I’ve started writing again - and I’ll be posting what I’m working on here. I still don’t know who i am as a songwriter, so there’s going to be an odd mix of things posted. Some of the songs will be first drafts, ideas I’m noodling around with, others will be more complete songs. I’d love to hear from you about what you like, what you don’t. It’s all information at this point. :)Thanks for stopping by!

Song a Day week is here

so today instead of writing new songs, I recorded what I've got so far this week: One and a half songs. I posted 'em in all their unfinished glory. Investigating Happiness (a phrase I heard Ellis us...

another partial song - 2/3 done

I just posted a new song I'm working on. It's 2/3 done, I think. It needs another verse or a bridge or something and I've got about 10 versions of the last chorus - haven't settled on one, yet. I a...

Whipping through the WIPs

Works-in-progress, that is. I posted another one today. I haven't had much of the "create from scratch" energy lately, so I'm looking at stuff I wrote this past autumn (remember autumn - that week t...

Another version of a sort-of done song...

i wrote most this song a long while ago (then called Another Morning) but wasn’t quite happy with it. I like this version better. But I have a lot to learn about recording with Garage Band. I...

making music outside the box

Outside the vocal box, that is. For weeks now I’ve been struggling to write a "song" - you know, lyrics, piano accompaniment - that sort of thing. For weeks now I’ve been frustrated.I do...

The space between songs

I am a big fan of the Solstice. And here in Minnesota we are endowed not only with crystalline, deep darkness, but a blanket of snow that smoothes out the landscape with a sort of calming "shush" and...

stuck in a snowdrift

We've had a lot of snow lately - in fact, it's the snowiest November/early December we've had since 1996. The snow has had a variety of effects on me and my family. At first, we were all pretty ench...
