Miss Black Hawaii 2008

My name is Waheedah Pugh and I am a junior at Hawaii Pacific University majoring in International Studies with a focus on Asian and Pacific Studies. I am the first ever Miss Black Hawaii!!! Which makes me the first representative of Hawaii in the Miss Black USA competition. What an honor it truly is!!! I am originally from Huber Heights, Ohio. Part of the reason I created this group was to find a more qualified delegate for NEXT YEAR'S pageant!!!! Since I am not a native of Hawaii I believe the next representative should bring true ALOHA to the Miss Black Hawaii USA organization. The other reason for starting this group is to find supporters both financially and other ways such as appereances...so please don't hesitate to ask!!! GIrls this is your chance to be represent you, your state, and other women all over the world!!! Hawaii is such as diverse place and I want to be the last person to add my aloha to the competion. Please contact me if you or anyone you know might be interested. Believe me...its sooo easy!This group was design to support the current Miss Black Hawaii USA 2008, Waheedah C. Pugh and future leaders of the community. The goals of this group is find the next Miss Black Hawaii!!! Miss Black Hawaiii is apart of the Miss Black USA organization (www.missblackusa.org). The mission of the Miss Black U.S.A. Pageant is to provide educational opportunities to outstanding young women of color and to develop the "whole woman mind, body, and spirit.The Miss Black USA Pageant is a community driven organization and is committed to addressing health and education, two leading social issues in the African American community. The pageant was established in 1986 and held its first pageant in 1987 in Washington, D.C. Last year to celebrate the 20years of achievement the pageant was held in The Gambia, West Africa. This year the pageant will be held in las Vegas...Baby!!!My platform is entitled: Optimistic Children: paving the way for homeless and imprisioned children. One of the first things I realize when I moved back in August 2007 was that Hawaii wasn't a "paradise" for eveyone. Please post or send messages regarding any of these issues. This platform started out with the title of "Encouraging Homeless Children" very soon I realize the need was even greater. For instance children with other needs such as hospitalized, imprisioned,and special needs children. This is when I decided to change my platform title because you never know what opportunity you may get.
