About Me

Born and raised in Lorain Ohio. Grew up playing trumpet. I wanted to be Maynard Ferguson, but instead I had to settle for buying his t-shirt. Spent a lot of time in the woods because my parents kept kicking me out of the house. Today I get PAID for playing in the woods. Thanks mom and dad.
Professor/Instructor of natural resources. Research and publications center around Dendrology, Entomology and Ornithology. I chose the right path, I was a lousy musician. In 2008 I oiled up that baby and started again. Does sitting in with Mark Pender count as a gig? If so, my first in decades. Time to grasp the concept of "practice". Recently got to play some original material. "Mad Dog 20-20" for a back alley wino convention, and "Love Behind The Barn" for a greased pig festival here in appalachia. Not that any of this matters. As soon as I win the lotto, I'm joining the World Poker Tour.
I still listen to jazz and lite rock oldies. I currently run a jazz station on the internet. Jazz/fusion/smooth/funk/R&B/big band/pop. It's not all snooze music, but includes good old fashioned fusion, straight ahead, in your face horn bands, and high screaming trumpet players. In other words, the stuff the smooth stations won't touch. Click on the Mypod menu for some samples, or look at my friends list for who I play. This is not your daddy's smooth jazz station.

"Get 20 Italian mothers to cook spaghetti sauce, and each sauce is going to taste different. Jazz critics, to their own detriment, are blinded by preconceptions of musical categories" Chuck Mangione
For the autograph hounds, check out this site for some of the people I've met and heard from. Like the station, it's a hobby. You'll never find my stuff on ebay. john hancock
This site was originally intended for natural history, but turned more into a music station promo than anything else. So for the nature lovers, I've posted some of my digital photos under pics.
