Ask any of Parkway South's fans to describe their music and you'll get many answers - punk, pop, indie, emo. One fan describes them as a fusion of the Fountains of Wayne, Jimmy Eat World, and Poison. One reviewer even went so far as to say they made him think of "a boy band meets Lynyrd Skynyrd." Ask a member of the band, however, and all such classification goes out the window. They'll quickly acknowledge that they're not part of any scene; they're not interested in giving their music any convenient label. So what is their music? It's just rock. Parkway South was never intended to be anything more or less than a rock band. They weren't out to change the soundscape of American culture. They never hoped to win fame, fortune, or women. All they wanted was to hang out together and make music that they would enjoy playing and that other people would enjoy hearing. Initially just playing covers of the Cure, Elvis Costello, Oasis, Crowded House, the Who, and other diverse rock acts, the boys eventually began writing original songs that brought their many influences and inspirations (ranging from R&B to folk to hardcore and hitting everything in between) into dialogue. Now, almost five years later, Parkway South is one of the most acclaimed and beloved original rock acts in the New York/ New Jersey area. Regulars at several clubs and favorites with many booking agents and promoters in the metro area, Parkway South have been hailed as "a unique and expressive band," whose energetic, passionate, and fun live shows continue to win them fans at every show they play. With the release of their debut CD, Does It Change A Thing? (produced by Ken Adessa, mastered by James Derose), in November 2004, the boys of Parkway South are receiving praise for their "great blend of instrumental textures that creates a synergy of pure pop" and their "well crafted songs." And, according to their devout fans, their songs and performances are only getting better. The summer of 2005 finds the boys recording the beginnings of album number two. Soon they will return to their rigorous playing schedule and devoting their lives to rocking as many bodies as humanly possible.
