About Me
On September 7, 1976 Lewan Drowski (aka Eric Vader - Lewandrowski was his grandma's last name) was born in Stanford, a little town at California’s coast and a suburb of San Francisco. When Lewan reached the age of four, his parents gave him a tape of Elvis Presley's greatest hits for his birthday. That's when it all began. He had never heard of the man but was very curious about what would be on the tape. The first song he listened to was “Tutti Fruttiâ€. Little Lewan was so touched by the energy within that song, that he jumped up and started to dance, and that’s how his love and passion for music was born.As a child Lewan kept searching for music he liked, and with his tape recorder he spend hours taping nice songs from the radio, some times over and over again untill he had a complete version of that song or where no DJ started to talk before the song was ended. Together with his brother’s tape recorder and his own, he started making his own mixes and compilations by playing songs or sound samples on the two tape recorders and recording it with a third one.
Trough his whole youth Lewan kept searching for and listening to good music. Going trough his parent..’s record collections he came upon all sorts of music styles and names, such as Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, the Doors, James Brown, the Jackson 5, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Sly and the family Stone, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, etc. etc.
Young as Lewan was, he developed a very broad taste in music, which you can still hear in the music he plays today. At the age of eleven Lewan learned to play the piano in a few months, in another few months he also learned to play the guitar. For a few years Lewan played piano and guitar in several bands, nothing really significant, they were mostly cover bands, but he had a great time.On a summer night in Haarlem (The Netherlands) in 1989, Lewan got thrown out of a bar for smoking a joint inside. Since his friends were still inside, he decided not to wander off too far and had a look in the club next door. It was a little club named “Dwiezelsâ€, and this was the first time Lewan heard some real house music.
Before that time he had listened to “Acid†and “New Beatâ€, but the house music was more complete than any other electronic music he had ever heard before. The music was funky and uplifting, and the crowd was friendly and happy. From there on Lewan gradually discovered the house scene – at that time very underground and exclusive. The Graansilo, the Mazzo, Per's “TimeMachine†at the Melkweg, Siso, Roxy, It, Rocco's first “Spin around†and “Awakenigs†partys at the “WesterGasfabriekâ€, Trance Buddah, the (still going strong) formula “love Boat†from “Healers Clubâ€, the first Afterparties at “the Zoo†and the early “Dino'sâ€, the first editions of Dance Valley. You name it and Lewan was there and loving it.In 1996 Lewan started to organise his own events. Together with a group of creative friends he founded the underground organisation “Abstract†and a year later Eric also started his own organisation “Orangeâ€. Both Abstract and Orange became active in organizing techno/electro/minimal parties.A year earlier, in 1995, Lewan bought his first pair of Technics turntables and started to learn how to mix with vinyl. For many years he only played at home, but not even at his own party..'s, because he did not consider himself good enough yet.It wasn't until the year 2000 that Lewan first spinned before his first audience at a friend’s birthday in a small club. The reactions were overwhelmingly positive and from there on he started performing more and more at small events and party's.By now his music style had evolved from techno to tech house, and from minimal to funky deep house. Now he mixes it all together to a very diverse combination of all these styles combined with influents of Funk, Soul, African, Brazilian, melted together to an uplifting mixture of groovy ritms. From 2001 untill it’s closing in 2004, Lewan was the resident DJ on Saturday's in “the Zula†in the Jordaan in Amsterdam. In the Summer of 2004 he also was the resident DJ at all Beach party's at "Uit de Kunst", Bergen aan Zee. Additionally he did some gig's in places as “the Sol†Rembrandsplein, “Itemâ€, “Club NLâ€, “Supperclub†in Amsterdam, “Atlantis†“de Notaris†and “het Apothekertje†in Alkmaar. “the Sun Sea Bar†and “Sonnevank†at Wijk aan Zee, “Timboektoe†IJmuiden, Paal 38, Egmond, Club Diamonds, Kóln, Germany, Jazz and Sail, Bergen aan zee, etc. etc.At the moment Lewan is hosting, together with 3 friend, Justin (with who Lewan Forms the new upcoming DJ duo "Submission"), and female DJ duo Naald & Draad (DJ Lillith and Asafo Adj), the SEKTOR FOUR events @ Amstelhaven, Amsterdam.
