Joey's Review
"First off, let me begin with how I came across these Austin, Texas boys...Being as I am a co-host for the podcast "Whiskey 'N' Waterbeds", I am always scouring My Space for new and exciting bands and musicians I can play on this show. Generally we play songs from such genres as garage, punk, alt-country, hardcore, paisley underground, psychedelic, novelty, and sometimes a little metal. Our show basically is a melting pot of styles (obviously), and the craziest and most controversial names and/or song titles usually will find their way on our show...Which brings me to my discovery of the Pissant Farmers. With a name like that, I knew I couldn't go wrong! Clicking on their default pic, I didn't really know what to expect as far as their sound went. But needless to say, I was impressed and hooked! I listened to the songs on their player, and loved what I heard! But as much elation as I had for these sounds I was hearing, I also had some question marks swimming around the top of my cranium! What was I hearing you ask? Well, I couldn't classify it. Was it rock? Was it alt-country? What was it? Well, simply put it was good fucking music! It has a crisp, fresh sound that uplifts you, even if the song is about a possible heartbreak in the making, or just heading out to a fishing hole...When I listen to their songs, it makes me feel like it's a care-free Saturday in the summertime with plenty of cold beer, good friends around, an awesome cook-out, and a killer party that's going to be starting in a few hours! Their music defies categorization to me, so I can only say, go listen for yourself! They have a sound all their own, and I can't help but say they have that "Pissant" sound! Comical? Maybe, but I'm willing to bet there are going to be other bands out there that will replicate that sound for themselves! Why they haven't hit it bigger, I don't know...But I predict a very bright future for them, and truly believe that they will land on a record label in the near future! I have listened (and own) two of their albums, "Lopin" and "Living With the Lead", and I try to turn everyone I know onto them! Just to let you know how much I enjoy their tunes, I have played them several times on "Whiskey 'N' Waterbeds", even though they don't fall into the parameters of what we play. Since there is something of a country music influence, I have also played them on my "Southern" themed podcast "Joey Fuckup's Hayride To Hell". Hands down, my favorite song is "Put Out To Pasture" which I related to...And quite honestly, most anyone can somehow relate to their songs. They write songs about real life, things that everyday people can relate to, and their sound comes across as refreshing as an ice cold beer! So do yourself a favor, go check these guys out (after you've gone and bought plenty of beer!) and listen! I promise you, you'll be glad you did! "
