Swagger is composed of four young people from Atlanta, Georgia, who share a love of playing music and songwriting. They bring energy and enthusiasm to their playing of traditional and modern blues, rock standards and original songs. Swagger competed in the 2007 Atlanta Blues Challenge and won the “Peoples’ Choice Award,” the youngest band to have ever done so
Swagger exists largely because one man, Chicago Joe Jones, a venerable and legendary Atlanta blues man and gifted teacher, brought the four members of the band together and guided their initial efforts. All of the members of Swagger have played at Chicago Joe’s Rock’n Blues Camp, held annually during the summer in Atlanta. . . . .
Jordan González, 16, plays lead guitar, sings and is a songwriter for Swagger. Jordan’s guitar playing has been recognized as sophisticated and creative, reflecting a skill well beyond his years. The same can be said for his songwriting. He has been performing regularly since age 13 when he first started playing the blues and rock-n-roll in and around Atlanta with The Chicago Joe Jones Band. In the fall of 2006, Jordan got his first taste of the “big time” when The Chicago Joe Jones Band won the Atlanta Blues Challenge and went on to compete in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. Jordan has performed with many of the top blues musicians in Atlanta, and continues to develop as a player and singer studying with both Chicago Joe and Jody Worrell. . . . .
Evelyn Richardson,16, is the lead vocalist and plays guitar. She brings to her singing a richness and a technique that is unique and exciting. Her singing career started at age eight when she first performed with one of the most selective youth choruses in Atlanta. Evelyn began playing guitar in 2004, studying first with Ted McCarthy until he tragically passed away from a heart attack. She now studies with Chicago Joe where she continues to develop her already considerable guitar playing skills. Evelyn is also an accomplished songwriter in her own right, contributing to Swagger’s growing repertoire. . . . .
Zack Falls is the talented and energetic drummer for Swagger. Zack,16, has been playing drums since he was eleven and the piano since he was six. His playing is filled with the nuances that make drumming dynamic and engaging. He also sings backup vocals and contributes to the band’s songwriting. Zack studies drumming with Billy Degnats and piano with Lynn McConnell, and is principal percussionist in his high school concert band. . . . .
Ben Murphy,16, is the band’s bass guitar player, backup singer, resident music theorist, and contributes to the band's songwriting. Ben has a deep appreciation for the bass groove, and has been recognized by many music professionals in Atlanta for his playing ability. He plays maturely and knows how to “stay in the pocket.” He has played bass for four years, and studies with Mike Cady. . . . .
You can find Swagger playing at a variety of venues throughout the city.
