About Me

I'm a GSLIS student at URI. That probably doesn't mean much to anyone not at the school, but it means I'm studying to be a librarian in southern Rhode Island. I'm also doing a dual master's program between the Library School and the Computer Science department. You'd think that one would exist, somewhere, but it is sadly not the case. That will change shortly.

Why did I move to Rhode Island from Seattle? I couldn't tell you rationally. It was one of the only other parts of the country I thought I could live in. I suppose random chance can play itself out in the most interesting of ways. I know with great certainty, though, that this is exactly where I'm supposed to be.

My Interests

Legos (I'm mad for them. They're my artistic medium of choice);
Martial Arts (mainly Tae Kwon Do and handgunning, but I'm hoping to learn something new here in RI);
Computers (we'll see how much I like them after a few more classes);
Math and Philosophy (liked those two so much I got a degree in them);
Equitation (fancy way of saying horseback riding);
Travel (I've been to England, France and Germany, plus all over the US);
the Outdoors (I'm looking forward to enjoying the Eastern Wild this summer);
Problem-solving (I am Solver Unit 72);
Microbrew beer (Magic Hat's Number 9 is freaking awesome!);
the Kingdom of Loathing (Is an adventurer you?);
the Doctor Who CCG (an incredibly obscure card game)
Cooking (Nothing fancy or specific, just food I can eat)

I'd like to meet:

I like honest people. Say what you're going to say. If it's stupid, well, it sucks to be you. But I'll appreciate your honesty.
I like intelligent people. Say something interesting, something deep, something unique. Make me think and question and debate.
I like spiritual people. I'm not saying you have to believe anything specific, but behave well, treat others and yourself with respect, and give up the pointless drama.

This is hardly a perfect classification system, but its sort of how I have my CDs divided on the rack. These are just examples of CDs I have. I tend to like hard rock, but I really have to take it artist-to-artist to find something I love. Got something good? Let me know!

My Blog

Seem to be having a goth moment...

Yes, yes, time to bust out the velvet capes, thin black candles and red wine (I'm +1 already!). I'm not sure what draws me back to trying to look at the world the way I did in college; perhaps that's...

Merry ::sneeze:: Christmas ::cough cough::

So, yeah, I'm sick, for the first time in longer than I can remember.  It sucks.  Seems to be mostly a head cold, but its working its way down into my lungs, and the coughing has begun. ...

Safe landing

Somehow, it worked out that I survived the move, incurring only a sore back, cross-shaped red bruise on my arm and smaller bank account.  The new place is still mostly boxes and bags, but the kit...

I suppose I can't just call this 'moving'...

But that's what it is.  That, and the usual ton of stress that comes with finals.  Plus 2 part-time jobs. Hopefully I'll have internet in the new place, smooth as a whistle.  Nothing l...

::gulp::

I'm drowning in work. The list gets longer and longer as to what I have to do, and the time I have to do it seems to diminish each week.  I'm really looking forward to getting into next semester...

Roller Derby!!

Just got back from the interleague bout between the New York's Gotham Girls and the Rhode Island Riveters.  NY took an initial lead, with some marvelous skating by their girls.  Ours kept in...

Ownership

Not in the material sense (that's a topic for another day).  I mean owning your decisions, your choices, and your fate. Life is arbitrary.  You can believe pretty much anything you like, an...

Father's Day

It's my father's birthday; hence. We just got back from Washington, where I was able to spend some quality time visiting my folks, as well as showing Sarah around the Pacific NW.  It was a rathe...
