Mukti began with the desire to create a rich multi-cultural tapestry with exceptional musicians from widely varying backgrounds. The result is a world music that crosses oceans and merges style with grace and passion: It combines Indian rhythm and form, Jazz-infused chords, Spanish flare and a certain western classical lilt, all the while remaining uniquely Australian.
•
Mukti consists of: on guitar, Glenn Rogers (Urban Gypsies); on vibraphone and percussion, Josh Hogan; on cello, Mel Robinson (Mr. Sister, wood) and on tabla, Vicky Ramakrishnan (Hybrid Collective). Each member of the group brings an individual but complementing aesthetic to Mukti. The result is sometimes meditative and reflective, sometimes passionate and full of fire, and always laced with intricate cross-rhythms and fast melodic invention.
•
The group formed in 2005, and has rapidly become one of Perth’s foremost World Music groups. Mukti is championed in Western Australia by Kulcha, and by the Temple of Fine Arts, Perth’s main Indian Culture and Fine Arts institution. In 2007, Mukti self-produced and released their debut CD Inside In.
•
Mukti is both a cultural and musical endeavour which seeks, through music, to access and develop a universal language to bridge cultural gaps, both in regional and urban Australia, and ultimately, internationally.

“Their music is passionate and intricate, and speaks right to the heart of people of all cultures and walks of lifeâ€Dr Hament Hari, Temple of Fine Arts.
