About Me

Shooz. Caitlin Cary realizes that she's utterly lame and even possibly a dirtball for never ever checking this myspace page. She likes to lean on the excuse that she's been focusing her energy on her former side project turned middle project, Tres Chicas, but realizes this will give you little consolation if you've been waiting for a year and-a-half for her to approve your friend request.
She would like to assure you, however, that having never been particularly popular in school and, upon reaching "maturity", having never advanced much beyond what gracious folks might call a "socially awkward" demeanor, she is actually eternally grateful for your attentions.
Caitlin would like to thank those who have followed her from her initial solo outings through her collaborations with Mr. Cockrell and Mizzes Blakey and Lamm, and she encourages those stuck in the "While You Weren't Looking" era to sally forth into the new millennium to see what she's been up to which, likely, you already have. She would not particularly like to talk about Whiskeytown or Ryan, even though she's pretty used to having to.
Time, finally, for an update. I think I'll give up the third person B.S. for this because I'm getting sick of it and plus it probably makes me sound like more of a narcissist than I actually am.
Last month I was asked to sing a song, "America the Beautiful," at the inauguration of North Carolina's first female governer, Bev Purdue. It was really such an honor to be invited, and made me feel like, I don't know, some kind of stateswoman. Those who know me will perhaps sympathize when I tell you I had to arrive on site at 8:00 A.M. and be ready to sing by 11:00--these are hours I typically sleep through. But I think it went well; response was great, and the 19 gun salute and the F-14 flyovers were big thrills. So was Andy Griffith's poem. No, it wasn't, it was terrible. But it's Ange.
I guess I don't need to tell you that I'm quite "off the road" these days. I'm really enjoying a homey, normal life, and I'm already browsing the seed catalogs. Oh, and Skillet and I plan to get more chickens in the spring, too. But I do still have a hand and a heart in music. These past few weeks I've been practicing every few days with Matt Douglass in preparation for The Love Hangover, which is a very fine Raleigh tradition that I've been part of several times over its 10-year history. Read about it here: http://www.thelovehangover.com/. Matt is the leader of a truly phenomenal Raleigh pop outfit called The Proclivities. I fell in love with them the first time I saw them, and Matt's voice is a wonderment. We've had a great time working and getting to know eachother, and I hope we'll charm you with our love/un-love selections. I think we'll be recording the show, so if I ever can figure out how, maybe I'll post the songs here. Lord, please send me a technical assistant.
Thad and I will play our first show together in quite some time, and it's fun to think of re-remembering songs from Begonias, which I'll play with him and his new band. Most exciting is that Alynn Love will be there on pedal steel--always a dream come true. We will each to a solo set as well, and I am hoping to have worked up a few of my own new songs by then. Promises, promises.
That's my news, really. Please, if you've read this far and you have a piece of money, donate a little something to your local food bank. People are going hungry in these sh***y times, and we must reach out.
Fondly, Caitlin
