About Me

The Los Angeles Treasure "LA FONDA" has officially re-opened.
We would like to extend a very sincere invitation to join us Monday through Sunday at our newly remodeled venue.
Historically known for being the first restaurant in the US to incorporate live mariachi musical performances with sit-down dining and simultaneously revolutionize the genre in Los Angeles; La Fonda is back with the same soul and under new ownership.
Founded in 1969 by Natividad "Nati" Cano, a musician whose own Los Camperos mariachi band became synonymous with the restaurant, La Fonda continues to carry on the legacy of a Mexican genre with roots as deep as food itself. La Fonda remains on Wilshire Boulevard as an LA landmark and a nostalgic reminder of the fusion of folkloric music tradition and the Mexican dining experience.
Though Cano has transitioned out of his Wilshire entrenchment, new La Fonda owners Manuel Meza, Damian Useda and Luis Moreno purchased the 1932 Spanish style restaurant in order to preserve a small piece of history and continue to carry on the legacy of Mexican culture in LA. Their goal is to see La Fonda evolve with its newly revamped surroundings without ever losing the heartbeat of the restaurant—mariachi music.
Diners are encouraged to socialize and lounge while listening to authentic music and indulging in traditional Mexican faire provided by Executive Chef Scott Velasquez. Velasquez’s menu is enticing.
Nightly performances provided by Mariachi Monumental de America, La Fonda’s new in-house ensemble, exudes a youthful energy that maintains a classic sound, which has captivated audiences throughout the country. Directed by Juan Jose Almaguer, Artistic Director of Plaza de la Raza’s Student Mariachi Program and former string leader of Los Camperos de Nati Cano, Monumental de America is a perfect blend of veteran masters and rising young talent. Having toured with masters Luis Miguel, Vicente Fernandez and Alejandro Fernandez, this group provides the perfect soundtrack for your dining experience.
Preserving its old-school charm, La Fonda attracts young and old, musically inclined and mariachi curious. Patrons come from all over the world to taste and hear cultura all in one serving. La Fonda is located at 2501 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. The restaurant is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a daily happy hour between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
With a huge emphasis placed on community building and involvement, La Fonda will collaborate with local multidisciplinary cultural arts center Plaza de la Raza and has future goals of opening up a mariachi school on the second floor that offers scholarships to aspiring young musicians. Branding their own La Fonda tequila blend and locally produced bottled wines is also in the making.
